Well, since none of my pure bred dark cornish hatched (not even sure if I had those eggs, they all look alike!) I checked TSC to see if they had any interesting chicks. They had 4 bins of identical pullets they were calling mixed pullets at 2.99 each. Looked like all red sex links to me, so I passed. :(

Hmmm, that is a good question.  They can and do fight, but usually they get things worked out. I have kept up to 11 roosters together in a rooster pen, and they all got along fine, but when I let them out they competed vigorously for new territory.  So it depends somewhat on the circumstances.  it also depends a little on the breed, and maybe on whether they were raised together.  My white Silkie males squabble and fight endlessly, but they rarely draw blood or hurt each other. They have attacked people with serious intent. The black and blue Silkies don't fight with anybody.  My Light Sussex occasionally squabble, but they adhere to and respect a well defined hierarchy.  and it depends on the line they come from.  And it depends on the mother, because disposition and behavior characteristics are inherited from the female.  I think there must be a forum thread dedicated to this topic.  Flocks with Roos are like the best of the Soaps:  never a dull moment.  And of course they are great eye candy.

Good to know thanks! I will see if I can find a roo thread

I could never imagine having twenty or more chicks at any given time

. The most chicks I have had at one time was 8 lol.
This was my biggest attempt and biggest hatch with 33 hatched and 32 in the brooder and I'm looking in there going, what am I going to do??? I am going to need a bigger brooder right away....lol Been trying to figure out what I am going to use because w/in a weeks time they are going to start getting crowded. If only the NY weather would cooperate with my plans!!!

My hatch is just about complete, Im still waiting on the one incubator that was running too cool. They started hatching yesterday, 3days late. I will give the remaining eggs another day to see if anything happens.
