The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

This tragedy with the killed flock has me being supper protective of my birds. We were going to leave the run access open tonight until we could set up a sliding door but not after reading that. I grabbed a big piece of plywood and slid it over the opening. It's only 1' thick and 2'x7' long

I think that's heavy enough to to keep critters out.
The kids love the new run. My son and daughter liked it too

if its racoons they will reach though the chain link and eat there heads off. I have chain link pens also. I have tops on my kennels (woven baling twine) The fox were going over the 6 foot kennels. even after the I put the tops on kennels I kept finding headless chicken in the coops in the morning. The fox were getting on top the kennels and trying to pull the chickens though the netting off the roosts. had too use a board to peak the netting way above the roosts. So far the chickens have been safe. Those fox are smart little devils....

Very sweet!! I like the gray and white! :love I do, I do, I do!! :celebrate Ron (and others) always say "SET ALL THE EGGS!!" So I ALL THE EGGS!!! Every last one I get. I follow instruction VERY well. :thumbsup :gig But in all seriousness, I do actually set all my eggs...lol. And yes, I have broken down and bought store eggs. nope. I need my eggs. Scrambled, boiled, omelet, cake.... On and on... I haven't bought store eggs in almost 3 years. Even during the cold months my Australorps give me eggs. It's warming up and they are finally slacking

the 2 white leghorns I adopted from a woman when she moved has actually given more eggs per bird than my blacks this spring. Who knew.

Oh I know that. I've got hardware cloth I'm going to skirt around the bottom and up all sides. It got dark fast that day so only got main run up. It's now got a shade cover over 10' and we will have the rest covered with a sheet of slanted plywood or plastic siding.
We just wanted the ladies to get some sun.

So the new brooder I'd almost done. I ran out of hardware cloth to do the sides. So I'm going to lowes today to get some and a few other things to hang lights and waters. I happy with it I guess doing it by myself was annoying. But for not having all the right power tools I needed. I think it came out pretty good. It rained last night the inside is bone dry so happy about that. But I feel like iv done better just getting old I guess. But I think the 3 week olds will love it.
Nice job!

Darling littles! I know they need to make an auto sexing silkie... Perhaps using cuckoo hens, that'd work right?

Sorry to steal your thunder @Junibutt
I just had to add that I just had a little white sport legbar hatch in her hatch! But now I must do research BC I've never heard or seen much about the white sport legbars I know they are recessive and they still lay blue eggs but that's about all I know. As far as the standard are they shunned? I know white German Shepherds are basically considered abominations. Should I not breed whit to white?
Actually, they are developing a standard for white I believe. BTW, I think there is a typo in your statement, it should be "in his hatch!"

Good Morning Mike!

I just got a dozen cayuga duck eggs at the flea market for $8! They were marked for eating but I asked if they were fertile and they said that they should be as they house both sexes together. I really hope I get a few to hatch!

I wont eat anything but my own eggs even if I go out to eat for breakfast I can't get anything with eggs in it because they make me sick at this point. It was a little weird for me at first though so I kind of understand but really you should try
