Quote: No secrets. You can make SBEL with a WL and any blue egg layer. The cross will not matter. The Sapphires are a similar cross but you use a Crested Cream Legbar and WL. Either way the cross produces White chicks. (Well I have some WL crosses and they will produces some colored chicks)
Those prices are CRAZY. I sell eggs for $25 a doz and chicks (local pickup only) for $6 each. They are not worth $25 a chick....
I don't think I made the first cross. There were several of us that made SBEL about the same time. I don't know how long they have been making Sapphires in Europe but that is where that name comes from.
19 of my 20 eggs are developing healthy veins! So eggcited about them even though no one else in my family cares....
I've seen this multiple times, that little jump gets me every time.

Day 7 Observations
I just tossed out 31 eggs. I have 59 left that are looking good. Someone correct me if my math is screwed up (wouldn't surprise me), but I think that puts my over all (all pens together) fertility at 65%. I'm going to fix this, though. I'm planning to move a bunch of hens when I get Oddball's new pen built. All of the hens he isn't breeding.
Quote:Thanks. At least I have an incubator open now!![]()
Yep, have a friend that breeds them this way..A white leghorn hen, and an EE rooster.. and gets the prettiest blue eggs! And, the hens lay almost every day because of the leghorn in them. The birds are usually white with black spots.![]()
