Just found out that I have to go camping on the day that my eggs hatch!!

That is perfect!

Then we will not have to

to keep you out of the bator!

Ok...NOT good...HELP! This is day 7 of my hatch...I have the hovabator Genesis 1588 with the 1611 automatic egg turner. Everything has been rest until this AM...THE EGG TURNER STOPPED WORKING!

So now it's no longer turning the eggs...all I can think of is a malfunction with the turner motor. We had tested it before use and everything was fine. It just up and quit working. So, now I guess I'm going to be stuck hand turning until I can figure something out with the company...I bought it through mypetchicken but GQF manufactures it.

Ughhhhh!!! This is not how I wanted to start the weekend!!

Should I just take them out of the turner, mark with x and o in their sides and begin hand turning??? If so, how often??

Don't panic. I've been without my turner this whole time. I put x and o on opposite sides and gently roll them around 3-5 times a day. If you want them upright like many like hatching get some egg cartons, cut the tops off and simply grab a thick stick or paper towel roll and elevate one side switching sides a few times a day.

Hand turn until you get a new motor.

incubator warehouse sells them for a bout 10 bucks. Keep a spare on hand.

If you are stacking the eggs, you can tilt the incubator suing a book on one side.

I was planning to take Marble to the swap tomorrow, but she's got huge bald spot around her vent. She's the only one that looks like that. I've checked her over for mites and lice. There's nothing there that explains what the heck is going on! It's driving me insane!

I don't want to treat them all again. Oddball and Jewel had mites a while back, so I treated EVERYONE. I've checked everyone else- nothing. Marble is the only one missing feathers.

Any ideas on what's going on? I really want to get rid of this hen. I can't stand her. But I'm not willing to make whatever is going on someone else's problem.

I've only seen that with lice or mites. I've never dealt with vent gleet, so can't help you there.

Are you positive it stopped working? The turner will stop for a while, then move later. I always look at the position once a day, and it should be a different position.

If it isn't working, you can put the eggs in an egg carton, and prop one end up. Then the other end, etc. Make sure you turn an odd number of times through the day so the embryo's aren't on the same side of the egg at night time.

Thank you everyone!! I'm checking on it to make sure I'm not losing it lol my husband might tinker with it once removed (he's super handy & a mechanic!)

This is what I use on my birds. It works great. After switching we had a noticeable change in their overall health.

Just bought some! Leghorns seem to have a continual problem with dirty butts.

Is there some reason leghorns have this problem and nobody else seems too?

Just candled, and out of 60 eggs I only tossed 6 certain clears. No blood rings that I could see. Very happy with that.

I have a very strange egg though. I have an egg with a air cell on its side- not a shipped egg, it is one of mine. I even incubate my eggs upright. It is the strangest thing. Has anyone else seen anything like this?
