Love it..post some photos..I just ordered some bantam cochin eggs. I want the splash. They have blue splash!

Slightly odd question... Is 96 degrees too cold for hatching? I assume that it is.. but if day old chicks need 95 degrees to stay warm, perhaps a lightly lower than normal temp is ok? I'm trying to decide whether to set up an LG incubator for hatching or to use the bottom part of my cabinet incubator. The bottom of the cabinet is about 3 degrees cooler than the top part with the eggs in it...

I hatch mine at 97.

I have had a thermometer off 5 degrees 95f the entire hatch. And got over 50% hatch rate.

LOWERING TEMPS lockdown IS NOT NECESSARY

I learn something new every day... I wish I wasn't learning quite so much today, it's starting to make me feel slightly incompetent, lol

Thank you all for the input! I think I will try hatching on the second shelf up from the bottom of my wine refridgerbator where it is 98 degrees. Added benefit of lockdown: more room in the turner for my EHAL eggs. It will be nice to not have to hand turn the extras.

They are hardier than we give them credit for. I had a broody hen abandon her chicks during hatching the day before thanksgiving. I came outside first thing in the morning to find still wet icy cold lifeless chicks in the nest. I thought I saw a toe twitch on one of them so I brought them inside and warmed them up. Amazingly, they made a full recovery... AND turned out to be pullets. ;) If she goes broody again, that hen won't get eggs. Her sister (who is sitting on eggs now) and mom are great mothers though. Ms Mohawk, not so much...
