The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Woke up to two new babies from my pre-HAL eggs with bad air cells. Yay! Two little dark EE chicks. The other two that I know were kicking at lockdown haven't pipped yet, but Day 21 isn't for another 12 hours technically... pictures whenever I can take them out and let them dry off. I'm sort of excited that they're dark chicks since the seller I bought them from had a picture of a black and orange EE that I'm in love with. I doubt I'll get one even close to the same color being mixes and all, but I guess I can still have hope. Isn't the front hen pretty? I love seeing all the different colors EEs turn out to be.

And my HAL eggs will go into lockdown this evening. They're currently in a turner and I never got an egg rack, just have egg cartons. Is it better to hatch them out in a carton? Or can I just take them out of the turner and lay them flat? They weren't shipped eggs so the air cells are good.

I love EE's too, like you said, fun to see how they change. This is what I have set. 21 of 22 made it to lock down. A couple of wonky air cells in there. I have a bunch hatch from this same person for the Halloween hatch a long..here is one of them..can't wait to see what I get this time. Your birds are sooo pretty! Love that one up front.. the coloring!

Candled my sweetgrass turkey eggs last night. 9 of the 10 are growing .. should have baby turkey Easter....

That will be cute to see!

I am getting so nervous about lockdown. I have some eggs that I can see the chicks moving and growing really well, but there are others I am totally unsure about. What do I do with them?! I won't candle again until tomorrow before I put them in, but I don't know if they should go in or not?!

Dark eggs? I would keep them if you were seeing movement last time.

I'm curious about lockdown temps too - does everyone leave the temp the same as you had it though out the whole process? I've been running about 99.8 the whole time...is that ok for lockdown? Do I need to increase/decrease? I'll be increasing humidity to 65% for lockdown...

I go 97 98. I do lower it a bit.
