The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

I also am trying to collect eggs for the HAL and I'm trying to focus on hatching out OE's and FBCM's only. Of course, my F2 OE laid an egg yesterday then managed to get poop on it and today my FBCM laid an egg, also with poop on it. Sigh. I just started using excelsior nest box pads this week. Prior to this I was using shavings. I cleaned out all three nest boxes... no poop. IT'S JUST ON THE EGGS.

Has anyone successfully cleaned poop off of eggs and had a successful hatch?

Of course!

It is fine to wash eggs and is actually recommended. A weak bleach solution(look that up!) with 80degree water.

Look what I got today!

700

First goose egg of the year. This one froze, so I'm gonna have to put a heat lamp up over the nest until the temps rise, but this is great! Hopefully I can get one or two more in the next two days and set them for the hatch a long.
no more giant eggs here. No way to hide them so now I'm not sure mine was a goose egg :hit

Hope you get more!

What does it weigh?

I have Storey's Guide to Raising Poultry and I know the bleach solution is described there. Do you happen to know if 1.) It's OK to wash the egg with the solution and then let it sit for a few days before incubation? and 2.) If you have to wash the soiled egg immediately? Cause the poop is still on the egg and I collected it this afternoon. I'm out of bleach so I won't have it until tomorrow.

I just weighed it for you and it's 190.3 grams.

But you know you're probably right...

But now the question..

3 Speckled Sussex, 3 Partridge Rock, 6 assortment, eggs from Meyer

(Or add some brahma or BR in there lol)

OR

Like 10 or 12 actual gorgeous possible show quality SS from ebay.....

Or ebay assorted/mixed flock eggs too....

Or do I get both....

Or do I add some Wyandottes....

Or more Orps....

Ohhhhh the possibilities!!

Hahahah

I would wash them sooner rather than later. The eggs should be dry before going into the incubator so a bit of time but not days.

Thank you for the advice. I'm not going to set them until the morning of the 24th, so I'll just make sure the nest boxes are super clean all weekend and collect eggs 47 times a day in hopes there will be no poop!
