The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

:th

My first chick is out, a Brahma. Way too early (Day 19) especially for a LF egg. I'm going to ring the friend I got them from as he gave me a few of them from under a hen but said he had collected that morning so they were fresh at lunchtime when I picked them up.
I'm thinking this egg the chick just hatched from must have been one he missed collecting and had been under the broody hen for a day or so.
I know the incubator is running at the correct temp and nothing else has pipped. The chick that just hatched was ready, yolk and blood vessels absorbed and a nice clean shell left over. A good strong healthy chick :D

I can think of nothing else as to why it would hatch so early :idunno Now a small bantam polish egg I wouldn't be surprised at a day 19 hatching but not a giant Brahma!

Hello From The Cottages! We have 44 that made it to Lock Down. and we are a day behind most of you, I target Easter Sunday for the hatch, because that's when our residents have the most visitors, Grand children, Great Grand children, and on occasion Great Great Grand children. Our first contest is going on, and many await with great anticipation, staff as well as residents. Best Wishes.
So cool!
Ive got 17 so far. Thats out of 155 eggs
Wow that's a lot of eggs!
When I get older, I want to live there!!! How fun for the residents AND their visitors!! What do you do with the chicks after Easter?
I have a small farm, So I take some home. Others go to Staff that have coops. Some Staff are starting new coops. Its a WIN- WIN!

Number 1 it piped earlier but when it zipped it jumped out in a matter of seconds and loud!!! And my first Chickadee EE

I was sure I saw a pip so I ran back out to the garden to grab my phone so I could use the flashlight and by the time I got back in I had forgotten which egg it was. Getting old I guess.

Home from work for lunch. Checked incubator for humidity and added a bit of water...then I heard a cheep!!

I couldn't see an external pip so must be an internal one! I set mine on Friday evening. I might have a chick when I get home!
