The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

Quote: I wish! Must not get ducks..........they are too messy........must resist duckling cuteness.

Quote: You can prop up the end of the incubator and then switch to the other side. It doesn't work too well if your incubator has drain holes and you have water in the base.

Wait...with an incubator..with no turner? Are you talking about the Brinsea.. a type of?
The octagon is meant to tilt that way. Styrobators can be tilted up on a book on one side and next time the book is moved to the other side.

It is not ideal but will work for adding 96 eggs to an 42 egg incubator.

But, I can just see my eggs rolling all over the place! I think that it would need the 96 in there to hold them tight. :)

You turn the incubator and not the eggs. Tilt onto a book or something and then tilt on alternate sides each time you need to turn the eggs(two or three times a day).

Go for 96!
I have no idea where I would get that many eggs..... Or what I would do with that many chicks..... But the challenge is definitely appealing!

Ahhh. My incubator does have the drain holes on the bottom. What if you used cut-up sponges in the plastic tray where the water normally goes? Holds water for humidity but prevents splashing and leaking!

Edit to add: How the heck do you hatch that many though? You can stack for incubating, but I am pretty sure that won't work for hatching...

So I'm setting pure breed eggs for the hatch-a-long, however, I have a mixed breed flock, so I had to separate the hens of the breeds I want to get them away from other roosters. How long until the semen from other roosters is out of their systems?

For ducks the rule is 10days, I imagine it's less for chickens
