The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

So today as I was walking out of the house I realized the fraidy hole is the perfect place to keep the eggs. It is basically the crawl space under the house excpet there is a 10x10 platform That is dug deeper so you can stand up in it and it holds the water heater and electrical panel etc are.

Only downside is walking down the rickety ladder twice a day

Eggs happily down there

Yay!!!

I have 8 babies out and several more pips and 2 more almost done, here are pics of the new babies,
feathered feet 4 of them

4 clean legged

the feathered feet would have to be the cochin momma's 2 look like leghorn
the others would be my bantam hens,

Me too!! Day 20. Plus, I can hear another chirping. I didn't see a pip on this one that hatched,..nor heard a peep coming from that egg. Woke up to the chirping they make while they are zipping. That little stink was almost out! It's a blue bantam cochin. Funny, I just hatched all blues from another breeder..this actually may be a splash, seeing a yellow tint around the neck. Will know better when dry.

Congratulations on your early bird!
congrats on your babies too, can't wait to see pictures

Quote: I explained to her about Welsummers from hatchery stock not being likely to go broody. She only brought me three eggs (they have a nice color) from the last two days (she leaving to go out of town) and asked if I'd hatch some of my eggs because she wants broody hens. The pullet has 9 eggs.

At lock-up tonight, there was one hen (who was broody and raised chicks last year) and a pullet (hatched last summer) on nests. We'll see if they are there at the end of the day tomorrow!
