Glaseria - hatching is addictive! It never gets old! Good luck on your ducks!
In my experience really loud cheeping means they are cold. Watch for pasty butt too.I have like 20 pages to read and catch up on! I'm taking an A&P course and it's so much work. Plus, I wasted ALL of the day on Friday waiting for chicks to arrive at a grain store an hour from my house. Long story, but the main point is the postal service completely sucks at delivering chicks. Anyway, out of my first hatch attempt of 3 RIR eggs, I had one early quitter, one failure to pip egg death, and one cute little chick! She was lonely so I had to get her a friend, or 3! Now I've got the RIR, a Silver Laced Red Wyandotte, A Blue Cochin, and a Speckled Sussex in the brooder. I am using an "electric hen" (I hate that term) for the first time. I always used a heat lamp in the past, but I feel like this is a little more natural for them. The SLRW cheeps a lot. The loud, sad cheeping. What can I do to cheer her up? Here's Munckin, the Cochin.Ok... off to catch up on the conversation! I missed you guys all weekend!
