I've ordered 42 pekin eggs to hatch and 6 call duck eggs. A bit more than originally planned but hey how! Can I ask the best and quickest way to despatch the day old male chicks as I will only want to keep 1 or 2 myself.

I use a pair of very sharp scissors and quickly cut their head off. I only dispatch if they are so messed up i cant fix them or they are dying and i cant fix them.

Thanks. I really don't want to have to do it but unless I can find homes for them I have no choice. I have very limited space in the garden.

Please make the effort to rehome them. It's not hard to do.

I agree, please at least try to rehome them first. Like emvickrey said, it should only be done as a last resort. Plenty of people like ducks, especially being more of a meat breed, so it shouldn't be hard to find homes. People may also want a pet.

And also how positive are you you can correctly identify the sex as day olds?

Also I haven't heard of anyone other than some hatcheries dispatching day old chicks, most people rehome them as day olds or keep the male chicks/ducklings until they are old enough and big enough to use the extra males for meat
