The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

Test hatch update.

First quail hatch 100% but the brooder light went out their first night out and all 8 died.

Second quail hatch(eggs from the same hen in the same incubator with the same readings) out of ten eggs two hatched one internally pipped two or three were positioned and the rest were malpositioned. One of the two died at 1 day, it wasn't right to begin with and seemed to have hock problems.

Quail hatch number three is under way. 8 eggs in lockdown unless I miscounted lol. 100% development except for two that had cracks at set that I didn't see. 6-7 pips already. I expect them tomorrow. Possible 8 pips but last one isn't clear.

Joining the hatch (by accident). I set 29 duck eggs at 1 am sunday. Didnt pay attention to when they'd hatch... oops... changes our normal easter plans since Im not leaving that weekend now lol.

First time with a turner. I have the newer black flat one instead of the common yellow ones. Any experience with these? I dont think i like it. I marked all with x/o's placed them x side up and every time i look x's are still up. They're tilted and i know its moving them some but not fully turning, HELP

I used the same one. Did the same thing x's and o's Lol! Wasn't sure if it was moving correctly either. Thought about taking a video and fastfowarding it to see. The eggs roll at different rates due to their size/circumference they don't all roll the same. Watch the arm. Thing moves so darn slow it's hard to tell. I did have a great hatch anyway.
Nice thing about it is you just have to unplug it for lockdown, nothing to remove or disturb and cleans up easily.

he is a beautiful bird
Thanks, Sue. My wife told me today that that rooster is the only one the breeder matches to her crele orpington hens. I would love to have some crele orps with that coloration.

So far 8 cochin eggs, only out of pen #1 so only blues and splashes.. I will probably set some again after this hatch with everyone with the black. I will hopefully get some EE eggs Thursday and Friday to set.

My closest uncle died this past weekend, the day I was going to start collecting eggs and in the blur I completely forgot about the HAL. Good thing there is a two day window, because I'm going to need it! Plus, his funeral is ON Saturday, and we are laying him to rest on our property so it is going to be a hectic day, I probably won't get around to setting eggs, especially considering his funeral is at 11.

Hopefully I'm setting 63 eggs for this HAL! I bought a thermometer/hygrometer today with a amazon gift card I won back in November. Also bought a candler (so tired of using cheap flashlights) and a heating pad to replace the one I stole from my mom for chicks. I still have $10 left! What to buy...
