Candled, down to 18/35 starters. Shipped eggs, so not bad still.

EHAL - Day 14 Candling Report:

Crele Orpinton - 20 set, 2 clears = 18 - 1 quitter = 17 remaining, but 3 are questionable
Jubilee Orpington- 9 set, 1 clear = 8 - 1 quitter = 7 remaining
Cream Legbar - 9 set, no clears = 9 - 3 quitters = 6 remaining
Langshan - 5 set, no clears = 5 - 2 quitters = 3 remaining
Bredha - 5 set, no clears = 5 - no quitters = 5 remaining
Out of 48 set, 38 are still in the running although 3 of those remaining are questionable. Okay with the results of the second candling, but finding 7 quitters was somewhat disappointing.

Day 14 already? I was so excited to come home and candle my eggs, ontly to find that my incubator broke. All of the eggs are dead

I think someone poured water into it's internal workings. I sure didn't do that, but there is non saying what a man with severe, Stage 3 Alzheimers (who happens to be very nosey and quite the know-it-all) would do to an incubator, is there? Even with the very clear and very large sign that says in big bold letter "DO NOT TOUCH"

Looks like I need a bigger posterboard lol.

I'm so very sorry!! Mine that failed during lockdown was a wire that was pulled out (by the active hatched chicks). I put the wire back in and it started heating again. I wish yours was that easy.

I'm sorry also about the Alzheimers - to me, that has to be one of the most horrible diseases out there.

Thanks, my last hatch, he unplugged the incubator on day 5. I'll have to put my next incubator under lock and key if I am to successfully hatch chicks *sigh*. Good luck with your hatch.

I don't think so. I have it turned upside down, because I think someone (not me) poured water into it's internal workings. Maybe it'll drain out, but to tell the truth I would be overjoyed to get a new incubator.

First candling pulled 25 eggs. 12 of the non-fertile were the lemon frisians. This is weird as earlier in the spring I hatched from them, the eggs were fertile and I had a good hatch. This time 3 good ones out of 15. IDK what is going on in that house!

Second candling tonight and all that stayed a week ago are still good tonight. Broody #1 is due to hatch her chicks on Monday. Since I posted her picture, I have 2 more broodys; a silver ameraucana and a black ameraucana. The silver AM got totally out of my control and has MANY eggs. There were a couple of days we had bad storms and I didn't feel like fighting her in the lightening and wind. Those girls can lay a dozen a day and it looks like she has at least 2 dozen under her. She is sequestered now though on her many eggs.

I know that has to be frustrating. Sorry to hear about that. I hope you can find a way to get a successful hatch.

BTW, I have family (dad's side) from NW Oregon - VERY NW: Hammond (Clatsop county) and Astoria. I love that part of the country, and that's where I found my love for chickens. It rains a lot, but but the berries and rhododendron make it so worth it.
