The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Update: chick hatched last night do I take it out now or leave him for a little while?
Another highly debated question. Some say leave till all are hatched. If you’re doing a staggered hatch that won’t be possible. If not it can stay in incubator for awhile. Have the others pipped?
The last two hatches I’ve left them in till done. And it worked really well. I do keep all eggs upright in cartons to keep the little guys from using the other eggs as bowling pins.

The other eggs were quitters except one and it has not pipped yet. So how long can the chick stay. I was going to leave the chick in until this evening about 6 or 7 to see if the other egg Pipps

Here is a picture of my chick that hatched. The chick is still wet but drying. So can I leave him/her until this evening? ( The other egg has not pipped yet )

Ok if it still hasn’t pipped you could take the chick out just keep eye on humidity. It would be better for the egg if it doesn’t pip if you remove the chick. Do you have your brooder at 95* for the chick. Did you find some chicks at the feed store to keep it company if it’s the only one?

I have not got the other chicks yet, I will today. My brooder is ready.

I candled tonight.
I've got 3 for sure with veins, 2 buckeye and 1 chantecler.
I'm pretty sure I have 1 with a blood ring. When I tilt the egg it moves around. Does that sound right?
If you set on time and are not a week into incubation, that may not be a blood ring. Those usually show up a bit later--after day 10 or so. Usually blood rings to not move in the egg and the inside of the egg looks dead

6.5 days in bator.
If it's floating does that mean it's a problem?
Watch it for now. Often eggs that look like that at this stage those wind up being fine and not a blood ring. It is better to wait until day 14 to remove any eggs unless they start smelling like sulfur or ozzing

Good advice from pen. I also do staggered. I have 2 more to hatch from this batch. When I have a lonely one, I take it out, then cover it with a towel until another hatches. They cry for a bit, like they do at first once hatched, then snuggle right on to what I think, they think is mama. Plus, it's dark. They keep pretty happy until another hatches. I am one to go ahead and take it out if there are others to hatch. Being under the towel and heat actually helps them fluff up faster. :)
