DH set up an incubator on the front porch this morning.
We got the humidity level up pretty good. Added water and apple cider with light brown sugar. It's coming up to a light steam release, keeping the air content nice and steamy.

We placed the subject which has been in a curing brine in the refrigerator for 7 days, upon a rack just above the steamy water of the incubator
Said subject is a homegrown Berkshire Ham.View attachment 1320036 He placed the lid on the incubator and has raised the temperature to a consistent 160*F.View attachment 1320041 Balancing the delicate heat/steam ratio is being performed by the addition of Hickory Wood provided by courtesy of Hurricane Irma. She was nice enough to drop a couple of Hickory Trees into our lap w/o damaging our home. What a sweetie she was I tell you.. Thanks Irma!.
To complement the apple cider steam, an occasional hand full of Apple Wood chips to generate a little more "Apple-ness".View attachment 1320042
So we are on lock down right now!
Lid stays tight to contain a consistent heat/water vapor ratio. We should have the hatch, let's say.. around 5 PM.
I'm hoping the smell from the incubator doesn't put me in the nut house before the hatch this evening. I don't wish to miss our little Easter Dinner.

I'm just burned out and tired of these little things!

The first person that asks can have all of my incubators, all of my tons of chickens.. all the feed accessories.. and every chicken related item I own!

I'm out of here! NO MORE CHICKENS FOR FARMER CONNIE.. I"m moving to the City! Later Gator!

My FIL's birthday is April 2nd, going to be 80 this yr. Ever since I met him I tell him happy birthday on the first. He says no it's tomorrow. BS, you were born on the first, your mom just lied and said it was the 2nd so you wouldn't be a fool. He didn't skip a beat, nonchalantly said, 'your probably right, I was born on the second and she lied' and laughed.
Didn't get it till he let me in on the 'joke'
His mom was German and 'lied' is a type of German song, solo voice with a piano.

Wow, a house full of company, kids running out to check on incubator every few minutes with status reports. What a fun day.

Our kids go nuts over the incubator. They were checking on it constantly the day I put the eggs in. Back room with a lock on the door. See the latch is undone, hmm I swear I latched that, keep the door shut. DW says the kids used a broom handle to unlock it, check on the chickies .
Yo bub, they ain't going to hatch for three weeks, lol.
