The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

@thudson, try not to stress out too much. If a hen can do it, so can you, and if you are looking at my broodies, heck, you can probably do a better job than they do as mine tend to have a lot of chicks die in the egg. I told my husband today before grabbing my purse and driving 21 miles to Orscheln's that I'd rather my hens NOT go broody. I'd rather hatch them myself in the incubator and not have to worry about what the hen is or isn't doing right. For me broody hatching is more stressful. Don't worry, you will do fine. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Somebody will come up with an answer for you.

Ron, you really want me to get a new one ripped in me, don't you?:lau I have 4 in the incubator, just brought home 5. Unfortunately, DH can count and knows trigonometry. I'm sure he would notice if suddenly the four "in case somebody goes broody" bantam eggs sitting on the counter top suddenly transported themselves to the incubator sitting on the opposite end of the counter.....no wait. That could work. He knows I'm a Star Trek fan, I could tell him that they were victims of a transporter accident!
Yeah but does he know chicken math?

ok where is the thread for amazing hubbies??? I have one. he keeps putting up with my chicken and Fowl additions with out much of a complaint..... I have ducks hatching today and 50 chicks coming in on Friday(5 barnelvers, 5 buckeye, 5 dark Cornish, 5 white laced red Cornish and 30 black australorps) . He had asked where I plan to house all these babies when they get a little bigger( we are going to pickup an additional grow out pen sat) but has not said NO.... wow what a man!

New to incubating so I will be following along. I already started my eggs, this is day 3. I need all the help I can get. This is my 2nd attempt. My first batch didn't go so well. Lot of things I did wrong or didn't know. So I studied, researched, and purchased equipment, and here we are.

Mine have only been in 4 days Go Peepes

Thank you! The BYC is such an awesome place! I guess we are all in this together!:hugs

We all are enablers :wee

I have 4 eggs due to hatch the week of the 12th of March and just dragged (well not really they were in a little cardboard carry home box kicking up a fuss all the way home from Orscheln's)today.

I COULD stick more eggs in the incubator but I think my DH's patience, understanding and goodwill will only stretch so far (and I really love having a nice warm bed to sleep in) I will have to resist.

You guys mind if I tag along for fun?

Always a chair pulled up just for you :celebrate

Oh yeah. I woke up one morning, set down at my computer and saw this as my new wallpaper.

As you can see he has a great sense of humor.

I've really got a great husband here also. He tolerates my habit really well. His only question being 'how many chickens do you REALLY plan to have. The thing is, my chickens are keeping me active. I'm almost 65 physically. Mentally a lot younger and probably a little younger physically also although I have a RA type of arthritis that is really beating me up. Mornings come that I do not feel like dragging myself out to the coops but I do. My chickens depend on me.

DH knows that, knows they are keeping me active and we pay it forward by giving our eggs away to people who need them and as gifts and tips to delivery people who stop by the farm. The girls at the post office gets some, guys at the lumber yard get some and I get my gluteus maximus off the sofa and moving!

You can cheer on my quail hatch!

Thanks Penny, that means a lot to me.

Hey Cap, I can do that!:ya

Actually I think the count at the moment is something like 64.:idunnoBut over half are bantams so that means that the actual chicken math count is somewhere like 20 bantams and 19 standards. The new chicks don't count as they are babies.
