The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Pics
SIL had a tiny bit of a temp and acted like he was bout ready to faint. I was in the middle of a full blown allergy attack and still managed to cook a huge dinner complete with fresh pasta and yeast rolls, did the dishes afterwards and fed all the animals. Can you hear my eyes rolling from way over here?

hear ya there I go 160 miles and hour keeping coops clean, baking, dinners, gardening three coops 35 birds and this is retired??????????

Curiosity question of the day..........

Do you all get that panicked look when a NON chicken person asks how many chickens you have? :lau (I know I do)

in the post office yesterday mailing eggs gal and I going about over eggs fresh or store
post mistress has birds brings the others eggs from time to time asked in I had extra
turned lady waiting looking at me like I was a foreign entity or from outer space

Nothing beats fresh pork. Our boar is Berkshire and the sows are hampshire/red wattle crosses.

grew up on the farm miss fresh pork, beef :barnie

When I tell people how many chickens I have and I tell them they just get this bewildered look on their faces and ask me if I sell eggs or something. When I tell them no, I gift eggs every week to whoever needs or wants them (gave the garbage man three dozen today)because I'm repaying blessings they seem to understand that.

Seldom do people understand that I LIKE my chickens.

How hard was it to clean after the hatch?
Not bad.... I was bad this time a friend asked me to put 3 duck eggs in about 10 days after my batch was already going, so I had 3 eggs that still needed turned during lockdown and when everything else hatched I gave it a quick wipe down and put the turner back in and it's still going..... I think I may go back to using my cheap bator as a hatcher for the next go round.... I already have more turkey eggs to put in on Saturday :lau

What kind of incubator does everyone have and are you satisfied with it?
I have the Hova 1588 genesis advanced with turner that's flat, rolls the eggs. Am I satisfied with it? As far as how well it works/functions, yes, as far as how well it looks, no. I knew what it was when I ordered it but if I had a do over I wouldn't have. I guess Styrofoam is good insulating, just doesn't look all that durable for the $$.
If I had a do-over I would have built my own, just didn't want to at the time. Had a Bud Light mini fridge give to me for Christmas a few yrs back, BIL won it on a raffle at our gas station and gave it to me, just didn't seem right to convert it to a bator at the time, BUT every time I look at it (I don't use it) in the garage, I think 'dang that would make a nice bator' and I don't like bud, or :sick bud light. Has a insulated light up glass door so I can see inside.
Incubator warehouse has kits, incukits ready to install for desktop or cabinet homemade bators, really wish I just went with that idea to begin with, think I will someday and try to get something out of that hova.

Those old Red Wood incubators are very nice too. It usually takes more than $10.00 to fix them though
I see them on Craigslist occasionally, big ones.

I have a Brinsea MIni Eco manual. I like it a lot. I've had to fiddle with the temp a bit this go but it's holding steady now. I'll probably work more on adjusting it when I clean it after this hatch. I have a feeling I bumped it with the last cleaning.

Overall I am pleased with the Brinseas and told my husband that I had my eye on Mini II Advanced and got the 'evil' eye as a response. I really don't mind the manual turn though and have no need to hatch out large numbers of eggs so what I have works well for me.

I have the mini advance love it. It has never fail even with shipped eggs. It is use for school hatches also.
