The "Accidental" no turn hatch experiment.

Very interesting. My cayuga ducks lay grey and black eggs, however I have never heard of chickens laying them. Hope some of your chicks pick up that awesome genetic!

These 4 hatched early this morning, (from a diff farm, the roo was blue andelusian, or blue Isbar the mom was Americauna, the yellow was a mystery brown egg.)

This is everyone who hatched over the week end (7) I have more to come on WED. and after april.

Gimme birdies, your avatar is a beauty, and that grey egg is amazing! I would love some grey eggs in my mix; so far I have light brown, dark red/brown, white, blue, and olive green :) I'm also wanting to add frizzles to my flock. Please keep us updated with your progress, Thanks!

thanks, if you IM me I can keep you on my short list. I was going to send some to a guy in TX but then my hen stopped laying. She is young yet, but we had an overly happy roo on her. Next year may be better since I will have more than the one. I am going to call my gray egg layers if the are developed, "Greyslyn" after my avitar.

What color is the grey egg shell from inside? Can you post a pic of the broken shell? Also, have you tried scratching the shell to see if the color comes off? Those might be clues for planning your breeding program for getting a standard grey egg layer.

I am very intrigued and interested in getting those grey eggs from you.

Hi thanks for you interest, since I posted the egg, I have so many people private message me I won't be able to accommodate everyone since my supply is so limited. I have not had an egg to myself in a bit, and I cannot remember what the inside color was. But that is a good question.

I have 2 eggs I am waiting on after the 2nd, yes I only put 2 in, one is a true gray egger, and one is a Blue andelusian/blue Isbar mix. The one below hatched and went with the others on Wed. this was just a 1 egger because that is what I had room for.

When i fill my incubator up and need more space i just fill the egg racks and set them on the bottom and never mess with them till i move them to the hatcher. Have just as good hatch as ones that are turned Once read an article about this theory done at a college and they had same results also

So does this mean that turning eggs is optional? This is one study, but surely there must be more research that indicates turning is necessary, or it wouldn't be such a mainstream practice.
