The adventures of Barbara (BR)

A Surprise for Barbara

It was an ordinary day, cold and windy. The girls went out for a while, but Barbara wasn’t feeling quite right, so she stayed in and practiced nesting. She felt like she had a giant poo stuck. She pushed and pushed and complained and complained. She hooked her toenails over the front of the nest box and pushed back HARD! All of a sudden, she felt better.

The giant poo had passed, but it was unlike any poo Barbara had ever produced. It was gorgeous—brown and smooth and roundish, and smelled a LOT better. The food people were delighted! They said Barbara had paid the rent and was no longer on scholarship. Barbara was relieved. She felt better, the food people were happy and she wasn’t going to do THAT again!

Wendy was still in the next box over, brooding her golf ball. She cackled a chicken giggle to herself. Barbara was going to be surprised tomorrow!

Two of the other girls went out to play:

Leroy to the Rescue

The sun finally came out today. Barbara let the other girls go out the coop door first. She was a little sore from yesterday's giant poo and didn’t want to be rushed. She waddled out the door and into the bright sunlight. The Big Girls and the two banty roos were already eating scratch in the backyard.

The fluffy little white cochins had been let out, too. They popped down the coop steps like popcorn. They were 6 weeks younger than Barbara, so the pullets were not yet interested in the boys, but the boys were very interested in romance . . . with anyone.

Barbara was scratching in the yard off to the side when one of the little cochin boys launched a sneak attack. Barbara looked so fetching in her black and white stripes, he thought she would certainly be impressed with his manly chickenhood.

The little roo grabbed Barbara on the back of her head and managed to get his left foot on her back before she squawked and took off running. The little cochin hung on and his right foot pedalled the ground madly as he tried to keep his balance. It looked exactly like a chicken trying to ride a scooter.

This attracted the attention of Barbara’s man chicken, Leroy. Leroy was not happy about the little white roo trying to make a wanton woman out of his girlfriend, so he flew at the little roo and drove him back to the banty coop, thus saving her honor. The food people were laughing so hard they had to sit down.

Barbara’s would be suitor, Scooter:
