Gosh, I never thought about chickens being blown about by the wind. I mean, it makes absolute sense, but I've been living in the city waaaaaay too long...
Has anyone ever had chickens get hurt that way, or do they have the sense to shelter from it and stay safe?

An Ordinary Day

A bright sunny day today. Everyone got to go out early to celebrate the sunshine. The Food Lady went out with her picture machine and took some pictures of the Big Girl and Little Boy chickens.

There was a Junior Food Man there today. He treated the girls to grapes, but Hot Stuff did not like the Grape Boy. All the girls paid attention to the Boy instead of Hot Stuff. Hot Stuff chased the Grape Boy all over the yard. Poor Hot Stuff about ran his little drumsticks off trying to chase the Grape Boy away. The Boy just giggled at Hot Stuff and tossed him a grape.

Barbara hung out with her girlfriends. There was a funny chicken house to explore. It was the Ameraucana sisters' jail house! It was a little scary, so Barbara and Buffy just peeked inside.

Leroy led his little Gang of Four around the yard looking for bugs and stray grapes.

It was a quiet day for the most part.

The Food Lady thought she would take some more pictures of the girls, but by the time she went back outside, all the Big Girls and the Little Boys had gone to bed. She went into the coop to make sure everyone was accounted for and there was Leroy cuddling with Wendy! He rubbed all over her fluff with his head and neck and sighed. His little chicken heart was content.

The Daily Routine

Barbara was getting used to the routine: wake up, peck Miss Blue Egg on the head, eat, drink, preen up bars, go to nest box. Complain that Wendy is in your nest box. Wait impatiently until Wendy comes out. Go in nest box. Sit there with a smile on your face. Sing egg song. Lay egg. Leave box and have refreshments.

Complain bitterly that the Food People have not yet opened the door. Complain that the Food People opened the door late. Complain that Food People did not bring treats.

Fly out the coop door and fly/walk to the garden mulching area. Spread mulch and leaves around, make a big mess. Hang out with girlfriends. Complain that there aren’t many bugs and worms, but keep hunting. Range farther and farther until you get up by the road sign that says "Chickie Girls Fresh Eggs."

Ignore Food People hollering at you to get away from the road. Ignore Food People until they go into the Food Palace and come out with treats, which is what you were hunting for in the first place.

Go off with Leroy for a private moment. Make Leroy find treats for you in exchange for your cooperation. Give other roosters the Stink Eye. Go visit Banty Girls. Help yourself to snack in Banty Girls coop.

Check out Sussex Babies in garage coop. Think they look funny with spots instead of stripes. Their feathers stick out at odd angles and they have feet as big as Walter’s.

Wander around until it starts getting dark out. Go to coop for refreshments. Climb on perch while you can still see to get the best place. Arrange feathers in pleasing pattern. Locate Leroy. Keep your eye on him. Tuck head under wing. Sleep.

Repeat.
