LOCKUP
The Food People did not let the chickens out for two whole days! Barbara was beside herself! No sunshine, no treats, no nothing. They did not even collect eggs. Finally, on the second night when everyone was asleep, the light went on and the Food Lady came in to check on everyone and get the eggs. Barbara took the opportunity to hop down and have a snack at the feeder, just in case she got hungry during the night. (Actually, the question is, when is Barbara NOT hungry?} Leroy was snuggled up with his head under Wendyâs wing. He had tried snuggling with one of the ISAs, but she was moulting and her wing was drafty. After a head count, the Food Lady wished the girls a good night and promised treats for tomorrow.
The next morning, Leroy and Barbara led the charge as the chickens poured out the door. Freedom! The Food People threw out lots of scratch for everyone in the yard, and everyone stretched and flapped and ran around to see if someone else had a better treat. They also knew that there were lots of goodies in the Food Palace, and if the overhead door was open, they could go in and clean up any spilled treats. It was their job.
Whoaâwho was that? There were two new chickens in jail! They were both banties, and the little rooster did his rooster dance for the little frizzle splash girl, who looked like she had an unfortunate encounter with an angry hairdresser. Barbara thought those round butts looked ridiculous, except on Leroy of course. Leroy had a manly round butt.
It was a fun day for chickens. Everyone ranged and found lots of tasty seeds and a few worms and slugs. Time flew by. Pretty soon it was getting dark, but the girls didnât want to go in the coop. It had been a long two days being cooped up.
