The adventures of Barbara (BR)

Ok.....so now I'm hooked! Due to Barbara's wonderfull stories I have decided to keep one of the barred rock babies for myself. I purchased a mix of chicks from My Pet Chicken and was only keeping 5. I was letting the family pick which five as I kinda already have a favorite, a Black Alstroup whose name is Susie. I'm kinda a black white and red kinda gal, those are my favorite colors. So today I add Eleanor to my flock. She is 3 weeks old and I can only hope she can live up to Barbara's reputation.

I love hearing her exploits and can't wait for the next.

I love Barbara!! I have Barred Rock, she (hopefully a she) is 5 weeks old. My daughter named her Sneaky because she was the only one to ALWAYS find her way out of the brooder, no matter what.

Thanks for the smiles! Your stories are awesome.

I am just going to add, my Barred Rock is making sure the new pullets don't take over her spot in the Chicken Government. she always let them know she is on top of them with a little peck. I tell her to be nice, but doesnt listen. is Barbara as stubborn?? lol

But of course! She is a Barred Rock—it is her duty to lead. . .

She is not stubborn. . . it is her birthright as a Diva! Big Girls have to maintain their position. The younger Big Girls have to earn her respect. Barbara says Barred Rocks just are entitled to first position!!

I love my BR, but I have 12. I see them out there "dancing" is what I call it. Neck to neck, chest to chest....pushing one another. It is funny. BUT......I want to let you know that Hannah has put more than one of them in their place....Hannah is not to be pushed around......Tyson just hangs out until he seems someone to "romance" and tries to make his move.

Thought I'd let little Barbara say hello to big Barbara. My sweetie is 20 weeks old and seems quite petite considering who her mama and daddy are, but she is thinking about laying her very first egg (and soon, I think).
