Tick tock... Barbara-leh-hee-hoo!
I swear, under her spotty feathers my Speckled Sussex, Fea, is Barbra's barred rock sister. She's trouble to the core and is having far to much fun teasing the big rooster Curry.
Until I started reading about Barbara, I thought my barred rock was the only chicken w/ attitude. Reading about Barbara is like reading about my Virginia. lol She struts her attitude all over my other girls....and the roo.

Chicken Therapy
Barbara has not seen any more funny chickens or big gray cats with naked tails lately. Of course, it is Michigan so it is cold again and she is locked up inside with those Wyandotte boys. They have one-track minds. Mrs. Chickendad outfitted some of the Big Girls with new aprons. The Big Boys have been loving some of the girls a lot, so they need a little extra protection. It is the chicken equivalent of safe sex, sort of. Barbara did have a date with Bob the Beautiful before he left on his honeymoon with his wives.
The Chickendads have been very busy, just like everyone else this time of year. There are 12 day old babies in the brooder and another brooder with 5 day old babies. There are two more groups of eggs in the incubator, sleeping. The Chickendads were running out of places to put the sleeping eggs, so they decided to sell some of them. Chickendad got a crash course in how to pack eggs for shipping, and several trips were made to the post office to send those babies to their new mamas. Some of the more grown up babies went along to the post office and took the Monday night Chicken Flight to new homes, too. So if anyone ever says chickens cant fly, the Chickendads will tell them otherwise!
On Tuesday, the Chickendads went to the Doctors office so Mrs. Chickendad could have a treatment for her close friend, Arthur Ritis. They were gone most of the day and when they returned and checked on the sleeping eggs, they were horrified to find one of the incubators had malfunctioned and was 118º! All the little sleeping babies due to hatch Friday had died. It was awful and the Chickendads felt very bad.
Chores still had to be done, though, so they went out to check on Barbara and the Big Girls. Barbara was strutting about in her blue apron, and Mrs. Chickendad put a lovely striped one on Buffy. She seemed to like it and snuggled right down on the roost adjusting her remaining feathers. The new BLRW Max has charmed the last two Sussex Girls into being his Chicken Women, and Barbara is probably going to be his next conquest. Max is very gentle and sweet and much more coordinated than his Daddy, Walter. When Walter was that age, he grew so fast he kept falling off the roostand the hens.
Poor Little Frizzie, the red frizzle cochin, has finally grown all her new feathers in and is no longer hiding out in the nest box. She looks like a little rusty red chrysanthemum, toddling about the coop and bossing the white pullets. So in spite of tragedy and loss, life does go on and we always have chicken therapy to help us through.

I would like to see a picture of those safe chick n' lovin aprons. My poor barred rock is balled from all the lovin she is receiving. She has that bald eagle look going on. So sorry to hear about the malfunction. I get so nervous leaving mine. Especially with 3 kids running around. "hmmm what does this knob do?"
I'm sorry that the sleeping babies died
I hope their little embryo selves died quickly and painlessly.
