Just wanted to tell you that I've spent the past several days reading this thread from the beginning and I absolutely love it.

I have a little Barred Rock (about a month and a half old) named Josie, I tend to call her "Josie Bear" most of the time though. I'm really looking forward to her being a little rascal like Barbara and some of the other BR's that I've read about.

Mrs. Chickendad: Wanted to let you know that I have 3 chicks that hatched out in an incubator and 3 more are pipped with 7 more waiting their turn. All of these are Tyson's. There are some Hannah eggs in there...we will see if they will hatch.

I needed to ask (just so I know) what kind of Roo was Tyson again? I thought you told me he was bantam cochin and BR...is this correct? I have at least 2 with feathered legs - like daddy.

Okay, I was totally off base. I could not remember.

Thank you so much. I was thinking that Barbara was his mom - making him some BR...but I just was not seeing it. I know he is gorgeous.

So, I just gave my chickies fresh feed for the day and of the 5 that jumped on top of the feeder, 3 were BRs... uh-oh.... I have 10 BRs, 5 of which are supposed to be pullets... we shall see...!

I'm excited! Thanks for the Adventures of Barbara... keeps me smiling and my husband wondering what he got himself into....

Theresa is correct. Leroy is a lemon blue cochin (Daddy was Floyd-a splash, Mama was buff). He briefly dated Mrs. Rocky, the white bantam plymouth rock. I have no idea where the barring comes from, probably the rock side. Are they still brick-shaped like rocks are supposed to be? The foot feathering is dominant, so those without it should not throw it in their offspring.

Congratulations on your new babies! I will have to tell Leroy he is a Grandpa!

It sounds like your BRs are definitely in "Barbara training". There is much to learn when you are Large and In Charge . . .

Barbara is kind of hiding out. She needs a full body apron after the dog ate one side of her tail. Of course, Monica, the other BR has finished a horrendous molt, and is looking quite charming with her lovely new feathers. It makes Barbara want to hide all the more. Monica is playing it up, too, strutting around making eyes at the boys and taking over Diva Duties until Barbara is back in form.

My BR pullet is starting to make me think it's a roo, but because it's my only chick with a single comb(the RIR died, I have a BR and 2 EE's now) I'm not sure. I've had them for 3 weeks, I'll wait for 2 weeks until I post. The BR is....the hungry one. Dun dun dun. She is always at the feeder...xD

owow, it has taken me several days but I have at last read the entire Barbara thread!!! It has been quite enjoyable

I never really knew much about the barred rock variety and didn't give much thought in owning one, but after reading about Barbara and the personalities of the BR this is definitely a bird I'd like to have in my future coop!

But please give us an update on how Barbara and her coopmates are doing. This business with the dog attack is awful. I'm sorry about your chickies who were killed
