Looking into getting a Brown Chinese goose to raise with my free range ducks as a weeder and alarm bell for aerial predators but I've heard very mixed reviews about their friendliness. I don't want to have an aggressive goose around as we have small kids. Do you think they can be raised to be friendly or just go with another breed?

I don’t think they would be the goose breed with young children. Unless only females but order or buy 2 females they do much better with two than only one being they are flock animals

Genetics play a role of course but if you hand raise them and get the Kids involved, they should grow up very friendly. We have two males, Sunshine (African) and Lollipop (chinese). Lollipop is a social butterfly, always has to be in the middle of everything, loves everyone, especially those with treats, and has quite the shoe fetish lol

My brother in law was visiting with his kids and my niece was enjoying giving Lollipop treats

If the kids leave the door open, they will invade the screen porch to try to get to us. Most of the time, they stand on the front steps and stare in the window at us lol

That is so sweet so if no females they don’t get ornery when mating season comes around? My gander is ornery as the dickens

They do but not too bad. Lollipop has a shoe fetish and stole my daughter's crock today...he tried to breed with it under the trampoline lol. Sunshine believes that I am his mate and tries to put the moves on me if I'm squatted down talking to them or messing with water. Lollipop has also been known to get excited with my daughter if she is laying on a blanket in the yard. She did have to stop doing that...
