The African and Chinese goose thread!!

For us yes. I have a spring/creek that rarely dries up, flows across the back end of our property west side. My goose and duck pond is fed by it also.
If it does dry up its usually August our driest month here. My birds have open free range to it except the few months of winter. I still make sure my waterfowl have plenty of water buckets in case the pond isn't enough.

I always make sure waterers are full but in Minnesota a bucket of water is froze over in ten minutes starting in November to May. Mine go and spend their days in the water in the winter to. And then go sleep under the low evergreens.

That's why I like heated buckets you can get them in 5 gal too. Thankfully I never have to worry about frozen water any more.

I have a small river channel that flows as the boundary to my back pasture, but I really want my geese to stay OUT of it.
Lots of turtles, spotted gar, likely alligator gar, and, yes, actual alligators live in there. We had a hatch last year right behind the house and saw the little croakers. And have seen mom and pop and few times while walking along further towards the swamp.

Otherwise it would be perfect. It has a lock just above us, and runs through a dense swamp about a mile below us that would prevent them from going anywhere very easily on it. It has tons of vegetation in it. It is really beautiful, in and 'old Florida' sort of way, and deep. But, as wild as FL waterways are... I'll stick to filling/refilling their pools daily.

Being born and raised in Florida i think you have made a very wise decision.

Where in western NC are you located Miss Lydia?
Just in passing... My MiL has a place near Murphy, down in the south west corner of NC. We go up often and LOVE it there. We ride motorcycles, so the area is nice for that, but also just love the mountain area. It's so beautiful. We plan to retire there.
