The Aloha Chicken Project

Forgot to mention, I set aside nine of my own keepers! Two roosters, seven hens. One hen is so flashy in color. The rest have a lot less white, more like small dots all over.

This is the one hen with LOTS of white. She's big, too:

Above chick is from my flock.

Over on the Swedish thread, they had one hen that looks like this. Let me see if I can link to the photo, which belongs to BYC member "tnbearchick"

NOT MY PHOTO - ABOVE PHOTO belongs to BYC'er "TNBEARCHICK". I just wanted to copy here to show you, because it shows a pure Swedish in this color. I think it is possible the chick I have here could possibly be a pure Swedish Flower hen? I don't see very many Swedish in this color, but this photo popped out at me because it was so similar to the chick I have here. We'll have to see how she grows out. The pure Swedish hen of mine is running with the pure Swedish roo at the moment, so we are getting some purebred Swedish. I'm going to separate them soon.

Another baby hen in particular is such a sweetie. She is big, golden yellow, and covered in white polka dots. Yellow legs. Makes me think of lemonade. LOL. Every time I go in the pen, she comes over and hangs out by me, and maybe pecks at my sleeve. SO CUTE. I sure do hope she keeps her spots!

I'll take photos of mine as they grow, and take pics over the fence of Raymond's if anything develops over there.

If these 11 are the only ones going in then it should be okay. I had a White Rock on time that covered 13 hens. When I set all but three were fertile.
draye has officially earned an "I told you so."

Breeder pen w/ Little Yellow Legs (roo) + 11 hens. Set 42 eggs. Figured about half would be infertile.

39 are developing.

Uh oh . . . another Aloha baby boom on the way! Due Feb. 20th.

Those birds are beautiful.

I lost one Aloha person yesterday, at least until she gets resettled, but am gaining another soon. I'm getting the KS people together at my house on the 17th. Should be fun to talk Alohas, show them my setup and share some of my grow out birds.

I'm setting up my Aloha breeder pen today with Aloha hens and my two big Speckled Sussex girls. I'm going to put my big GNH with them, check fertility after a couple weeks and start saving eggs. My Swedish and German New Hamp pullets are taking a bit longer to be ready to lay than I expected, but there you go.

Congratulations!
I don't like to brag about being right, but I told you so! LOL.
No really just kidding.

I am soooooo happy right now! I am getting a Jubilee Orp roo to add to the project!!!!!! I have a friend who has them, and I knew she will be starting to hatch soon, and told her is she ended up with an extra roo I would be interested. She said she currently has 3 extras!!!! Hot diggity dog!!!!!!

OK, I know there are some negatives, but these Orps are HUGE and have speckles, so size and color, correct comb, wrong feet/leg/skin color... but seriously. Think of the size improvements that can be made!

I am so happy for you. kinda makes me think i want to make another trip to kansas, lol. please let us know when you have fertile eggs from jubilee orp x aloha.

You got it! I am going to Karen's on the 17th, I hope she has a couple of Aloha hens I can pick up, so that he will have more than 2 hens. I think I will stick with the plans of having the Aloha roos over my Wellie girls. And have the Orp over any Aloha girls I have. That way there is some Aloha in all of the eggs.

sounds like a good plan... i am looking at buying some chicks that are 1/2 SS and 1/2 Jubilee Orp... i might use them to improve the size on my SS but i was allso thinking about the Aloha's... i really think im going to set a breeding pen up that is SS x buff orp that has yellow legs and start an Aloha project this year...

Go for it Elias, I'll cheer you on.
I'd really like to help with the Aloha's but space is limited for me.
