Awesome that the babies are doing great! Sounds busy out there. Ugh, that stinks about your ankle .. . makes it a lot tougher to do chores.

I finally took some more chick photos. Here are the Cheeto chicks. As we've been guessing, those small white spots that were seen earlier have faded out on most of the chicks. However, the good news is the obviously spotted chicks with more white . . . are still spotted. LOL!

The three roosters are so cute. I like the one with the most white, but the lightest one with the least black is cool, and also the biggest one. The other one is very cute, too, bright red and white.



Can you see how the chick on the right, the more "orangey" one, his back is a bit taller? And look at his legs, they're a little bigger? Sorry I cut off his head, they move so fast!

So far, these colored babies are the closest to what I've envisioned the final Aloha Chicken breed looking like. If they keep their color! (Crosses fingers!!)

Here are photos of the younger babies, but what a mess! Right now, hardly anything has colored up. And sizes are all over the place! Some are SO TINY. Others are huge - like twice the size of the itty bitty chicks! Oh boy . . . .

So, two are jumping out at me right now. One is really big with yellow legs. He shows spots right now, but they may be the fading kind of spots. His size and type is impressive, though!


This one I'm really interested in. Looks like a hen to me, so far. And she's BIG. Very "golden". TONS of white. I have no idea how her final pattern or color will look like, other than she has a lot of white and a lot of mass to her body. She is very nice and round!









She does look to have a slight double comb towards the back, and pink legs instead of yellow. But . . . still very promising!

I have two like this one, a hen and rooster I think. Kind of look "Sussex" ish, as those will color just a little on the chest as babies. Most of the Sussex color comes in MUCH later, like around three months.



That red looks a lot brighter than a regular Sussex color, though. Promising!

A lot of chicks aren't showing much of anything so far. Waiting . . .





What a motley group! The one above on the right, is looking very Ginger-red. In the middle with the neon orange legs, is the chick I took a close up of in the first pic. To the far left, a chick with gray legs and no color at all so far. Looking very much like a "cull" at this stage, that one!

So there's some of the about 30 chicks growing up right now that are about a month old. What a mixed bag of sizes and shapes!

Good morning!

I moved chicks to the brooder late last night when I got home. 51 so far, there are a few slow pokes still in the hatcher, but I am not sure they will make it.

So 51!

I think the age of the eggs played a big role. I had @ 24 that died around/during lockdown without pipping.

The color variety is amazing! Some pale yellow with black to dark chipmonk. I am planning on getting a picture later today.

Yes, some of the eggs were getting old by the time they reached you guys. It was about two weeks on the oldest eggs.

About 100 new baby Alohas, though! That's awesome!

At least half will be roos . . . . but that still leaves good odds for quite a few nice hens. If you end up with 20 nice hens and 4 excellent roosters when you're done raising and culling, I'd call it a total success!

I can't wait to see how Stephen's chicks turn out. Those are the ones that I just hatched out here. You guys didn't get any of those eggs on Notinoz's last trip, but if they turn out nice, we can fix that on her next trip if you're game. See how worn out you guys are after raising and culling this batch! Ha ha ha . . .

Taz, that's still a really good number of chicks, considering the age of the eggs. Congrats!!!!! Thinking about your family and keeping you all in my prayers.

I ended up with a total count of 51. Checked the rest with the stethoscope and nothing was going on so bator is off. This morning I watched the chicks in their bigger brooder and they have settled in nicely and are appreciative of the extra space. I love just watching them. I homeschool one of my sons and so he is doing my chicken chores while I'm unable. One of the chicks is kind of a reddish orange and it insisted on riding atop his shoe as he changed water and filled the feeders. When the chick wasn't on top of his shoe he was annoyingly right underfoot which is adorable but we're going to have to be really careful while in the pen.

I have one chick who has some kind of problem with his leg. It looks like he was injured somehow but he's able to eat and drink and get around so I'm hoping it will heal and it will be okay. Oddly enough, I have one chick with pasty butt. It's one of the more Sussex looking chicks and I did have trouble with some of that with my SSX but I thought it was due to shipping stress. Other than that all of them look to be doing great!

I'll see if I can get someone to take some more pics this evening of the chicks in their new space.

Karen, now comes the frustrating part . . . waiting to see if and how they color up! Ha ha ha! You should start to have a good idea in 4-6 weeks.

I so happy with the 51 and there is still peeping in the bator so fingers crossed that there might be a couple more. I am just sad for the ones that died so late. Like there might have been something I could have done differently. Ya know?

I cannot wait to see how they color up. The color differences are amazing now, so we should have some great choices.

Laree, I just wanted to let you know, both surprises hatched, and one looks like a splash silkie, and the other is a dark chocolate chipmonky pattern.

I haven't had much time to ooh and ahh over them, I think all the traveling back and forth and the stress has taken it's toll.
