The AMERAUCANA thread

I am looking for black Ameraucana hens. I have self blue Ameraucanas. I am needing advice on what to look for. And where I can find them in Oregon.
Other than Cackle, going through both clubs breeder directories, and checking on Facebook or eBay. I got mine from Cackle and have had positive evaluations on them from the Facebook group related to the clubs. They are breeder stock so you can get show birds from them if a breeding program for that is followed.

I am leaning towards getting the black Ameraucanas at Cackle Hatchery. I have had good experience with them with shipping. And it makes me feel better that they are NPIP certified.

Got started on hatching this year, it's going great, but I'm taking a break after the next two clutches. A brand new show in FL got announced like 2 weeks ago, the MidFL poultry association show, and I think I'll be attending, so I went ahead and separated everyone to get ready for it. It's exciting to see a new show that isn't a fair pop up, I don't like super long shows.
9 chicks so far, and a ton more fertile eggs on the incubator to hatch in like 2 weeks.

After the show I'm probably gonna be switching out males. My current male has aggression issues, so I was gonna split the hens between my eldest cockerel and one of my younger ones. Thing is, the younger cockerel I wanted to use has pretty weird coloring. I was planning on using this guy, since's he's got the best comb of his group, he's the most vigorous of the group, and he's got a nicely spread tail, but his coloring is super weird and I'm not sure if I should use him because of it. Honestly still not sure quite what he is, but he 100% came from the blue wheaten ameraucanas i've got. If anyone has input on what color is he/whether his color discredits him from being bred, I'd appreciate it.

Have 23 chicks on the ground who are all maybe like a month old or older than that. At least 16 are pullets! Best ratio I've gotten in a long time. They're so sweet too- raised by Cochin hens, so they're extra friendly.

That show in Ocala came and went. It took a long time. Didn't win, Champion AOCCL went to an absolutely stunning Cornish hen, and reserve AOCCL to a really beautiful Sumatra cock. Always next time!
I'll definitely have plenty of girls to pick from for my next show lol.
