The rooster only needs to be with the hens a couple of days a week. Yes you could change the roosters out every other week.

I have a question for you guys.

I was told by a big chicken breeder, here in nc, that it is bad to put 1 rooster and 2 hens together. That the rooster will want to mate 4X a day and tear up the hens badly.

Is this true?

Should I look into chicken saddles/aprons?

Perhaps I can put 1 cemani rooster with my main flock and one with my 4 cemani hens and then swap out my rosters every week or so.

What do you guys think?

I like to keep one rooster with at least 3, or better yet 4 hens.
You can either buy chicken saddles, or you can rotate the rooster and just let him be with the hens every other day or once every 3 days. Whichever works best.

Good advice guys!

I spoke with mike, (Wolfwhyte) he said my birds are all out of the shell, jet black and 2-3 weeks old.
He will overnight them in 3 weeks.

I would wait at least a couple of weeks between roosters as semen can live inside the hen for up to three weeks. Otherwise you may have difficulty determining which cockerel is the father. This is especially true if the hens will be living with any other cockerels even temporarily.

I have a batch of Ayam Cemani/Birchen Marans chicks because my Cemani pullet got out and I did not wait the full two weeks.
They are cute but it is a little strange to see a jet black bird with long feathers down the shank. They kind of remind me of Cher.

I have right now two hens and they are fine with one rooster. I had a jersey giant too with long spikes and he cut poked and injured the hens. Really depends how mean and aggressive the rooster is. I keep my roostesr separate until I breed them otherwise all my hens are rooster free. All mean roosters go to the meat market.

The exhausted Chinese rickshaw guy delivered my digital thermostat!

Its programming was very confusing, but once I finally figured out what the poorly translated directions were trying to say it worked great!

It is sooooo much better than the little giant thermostat I canabalized earlier.
