That is very nice home made incubator. Very Nice I think I would go with a plastic tray instead of metal and use distilled water so no germs or pathology's grow again Very Nice. Since your sharing I will show you my sons last years Trophys and medals apa shows and 4-h. I have some of the best birds in NJ PROVEN. Zoom in on the picture and read Grand Champion of the state of NJ. That's right.... If you see the chicken pooped

on there permit, lol Chicken Bingo I noticed all the apa trophies are not shown so I added the picture. I included Green fire Farms Jubilee English Large Fowl Champion apa show

What does the permit look like from a hatchery? I have never saw one that I know of. Do I need to ask for it? I'm positive they have what ever documentation they need because it is a huge operation and even TSC buys from them. I'm sure they are legit. I just have never seen a permit in my package from an in state hatchery, That I know of any way.

Now to get an NPIP, I once had a guy tell me I had to have a minimum profit and number of birds to get registered. He was consulting us on raising sheep and cattle though, so I don't know exactly what he knew about birds. Is there a reputable website I can find info about NPIP and how to get it? It would be good to know for the future If I do decide to make any kind of business out of it. Right now I'm just for fun and eggs :p

I'll bookmark your links to the shipment laws.
Depending upon what state you live in, they should at least send their NPIP VS Form 9-3. Plus if your state requires an import permit, then they should include that.

It is the shipper's responsibility to get the proper forms and permits. However, the buyer may also be required to get permits by their city, county, or state.

All this is why I recommend people spend a little it of money on an attorney to properly start a business.

WOW your birds are AWESOME!
Bravo!

You must be very proud of your boy!
Please if you see me making any errors as I develop and breed my birds, let me know!

I would be honored to have exerts like you folks helping me out along the way.

My present problem is this:
It turns out my digital Thermostat is being mailed from China and wont arrive for another MONTH!
(evidently it is being delivered via rickshaw)

I am bound by agreement to pick up "random breed hatching eggs" in 3 days from the local bird farm!

I have an old "Little Giant" still air incubator that I planned to use for the final days of hatching.

It looks like this:

I was thinking about removing the thermostat from it and installing it into my cooler-bator.
(All I should need is one drill hole for the adjuster rod and maybe some screws or even duct tape)

I figure I can use this, at least until my digital one is delivered next month.
Then I can reinstall it back into the old incubator for hatching.

Do you guys think it will work?

Oooooh SNAP!

Looky what I found!
check out this video!
Fast forward to 5:01 minutes!

Here is my 2nd breeding group. Picture taken with my cell phone so sorry if it's blurry.
These are all younger birds and the hens should start laying at any time now. I think between this pen and my other main breeding pen I've finally solidified my breeding groups/plans for 2014.

Boykin, I don't know which is more excellent
Your birds, or that smokin sleek coop of yours!
Nice work!

But I do know this....
It sure is nice NOT being the smartest or most talented guy here.

Lots I can learn from you folks.

HA!!! It WORKED!
I installed the "Little Giant" thermostat by drilling a hole for the knob and for the red light and 3 more for each wire lead. I then had to tape it because the screws were too short for the cooler wall.

Here are the 3 wire leads which I hooked up.
Black to incoming black
Red to out going black
White to white

Next I used a screw driver to begin adjusting the heat.

Look at the cool red light! It's working!

Things are heating up!

And the light shuts off at 99.5+

And then turns on at 99.5-

I brought my 1st batch of "random chicken eggs" home from the Sumner Byrd Farm.

They are now SET.
Day1

They are mostly random bantams.
3 are Japanese bantams.
A few top hats and jersey giants.

And so the training begins.

I have a question for you guys.

I was told by a big chicken breeder, here in nc, that it is bad to put 1 rooster and 2 hens together. That the rooster will want to mate 4X a day and tear up the hens badly.

Is this true?

Should I look into chicken saddles/aprons?

Perhaps I can put 1 cemani rooster with my main flock and one with my 4 cemani hens and then swap out my rosters every week or so.

What do you guys think?
