I have cemani that I hatched from eggs bought from Toni Marie, as luck would have it I got one roo and 3 pullets! They are approx 4 mos old right now. All are just a bit "off" as far a what I have read standard to be...a few light toe nails in the bunch and inside mouths not 100% though they are getting darker. My question is about my roo...he is starting to get his hackles and saddle feathers in and Im noticing a straw/birchen color coming in sporadically. I would love to post some pics for review if anyone is still active in this thread?

Loving this breed. Very friendly little bunch excited to start improving this breed.
Was also looking into eggs from Cemani Farms and was told that it is about a 4 day transport? Has anyone in the US had luck hatching eggs from them?

You will need to breed out the birchen or gold feathers. It may take a few generations and heavy culling.

I really wish Cemani Farms would stop telling people they can import eggs. That is a lie. They will take your money, ship your eggs, and then your eggs will never get past quarantine.

This was discussed in this forum many times. It is illegal to import eggs or birds from Indonesia. The USDA has a ban against it (actually a lot of Asian countries). Please do not break the law and endanger the flocks of the U.S. by illegally importing eggs or chickens. The reason for the ban is simple: Indonesia has failed to control the AI outbreak. Until they do so, you CANNOT get eggs from Indonesia.

Thank you for the reply. That is the reason I have never ordered...I have yet to find anyone in the US who has successfully gotten them....
I have read through the forum and am new to breed ownership but have admired and researched them from afar. I have two more smaller ones and I am thinking that one is a cockeral that I am hoping will have better color in his hackles. WIlling to cull as hard as I need to in order to get the all black

Thank you for that info. I actually bought eggs from Randy on ebay and sadly the po scrambled the heck out of them...all air cells were detatched and bubbles inside too. They must have played soccer with the box. Needless to say, none hatched or developed, though I did try just in case

Why not just buy chicks instead? The eggs of some breeds don't seem to post very well. Ayam Cemani are one of those breeds. I have actually stopped selling Cemani eggs through the mail as I feel it is just a waste at this point. The Post Office kills way too many eggs that would have served the breed better if they were just sold as day old chicks.

So I would highly recommend just buying unsexed day old Ayam Cemani chicks. Or if your budget allows, you should be able to get sexed pairs for a reasonable price right now.

Lol stop tempting me I have to force myself not to get any more chickens than I already have/am expecting. So 18 more chicks in the next week or 2, then none until spring. And then I need an incubator.

Day old, unsexed Cemani and Svart Hona are $200 each. But Maryland, my state wants me to sell only six or more for the chick's health. So if people buy say only two, I include whatever Legbar cockerels or projects chicks I have to make the number. I actually agree with the state on that issue as chicks need other chicks for warmth and comfort.
