So this is my first hatching from the columbian dad and mom is a paint. The chick has all yellow down, with no black patches of feathers, but the skin has a marbled pattern of pink and black. So what is this chicks considered, a white paint, or just a white?

*the second chick is a blue. Still waiting on the erd one to hatch!

Do you mean that the skin is marbled pink and black? If so, that is a pigment issue that happens with paint. As for the feather colors, Sometimes the paint spots don't come in until they are a little older. But I've also hatched whites from paint.

Another view of the chick.

Does this chick have spraddle leg or was it just how he was standing when you took the pic?

Probably have some leakage. So cute!

I'll post some pics of mine tomorrow! I started with an SQ pair, and accidentally bred my hen to a black frizzle silkie roo. The two of them had two smooth feathered paint chicks with great spots. Both are hens, and I'm hoping to breed them back to the SQ roo and get some good chicks.

So, these solid coloured chicks now carry the paint gene, right? Could i breed them to eachother or back to mom to get paints? I am currently looking for a black rooster.

Hey Suzierd!
So I ended up hatching 2 blues, 1 black, 1 white and a second white with a tiny black spot on its back. I guess I have a paint. Should I breed these chicks, back to mom and eachother? I sold my columbian rooster and I will buy a black roo, to have new blood and breed him to my paint girl! Does this all sound good?

Thanks!!
