Yes! I have a paint hen, the mom and a black hen that is unrelated! I have 2 paint chicks, one pure white chick, two blue and one black chick. I hope the chick with the big black spots is a rooster, so j can breed him back to his mom and the black hen. Can you breed a paint to a paint?
You can breed a paint to a paint but it's not recommended. The top paint breeders that are working on getting paint to be a recognized color, recommend breeding a paint to black, especially a black with the silver gene. Which usually will have silver leakage. I have paints, blacks and whites growing out from a black roo over paint hens. I plan on setting up a breeding pen with a unrelated black/silver boy I have with paint girls. And another pen with an unrelated paint boy over black and white hens. I would like to see what happens with paint to paint though too. The issue with paint to paint is the silkies loose the dark skin and get light eyes. What ever faults they have are magnified when paint is bred to paint. And it's best to select the best chicks you get from each hatch and only breed them.
