Thanks, ALL babies are so adorable.
It is getting dry now and has lots more dark markings than I thought.

I think APPY would be more appropriate.

So cute!!
My very first batch of 'paints' that I had hatch I got 4 partridge ones. They turned out jsut beautiful.
Funny thing is I haven't hatched any partridge since ???
I didn't mind at all tho bc I LOVE partridge

OurLittleFlock....that's pretty good percentage. Congrats!!
So far I have three White, 2 deep Blue and the Paint and that "chipmunk"
Possible 4 more to go, just patiently waiting to see if they hatch.
I'm hoping for paint but any GOOD chick will be welcome.

I guess "Paint" is a good name, mine of course look more Appaloosa.

I love spots.....if only I could have found a freckle face husband!!!

I'm sure you all know I was kidding about the name Paint and changing it to Appaloosa, BUT I had a thought about the possible connection in the two.

Some people say that their chicks have hatched with little or no noticeable spots. I have an idea about this.

While most Appaloosa horses have spots when born they also do develop more as time goes by. And even some are born solid and then speckle out all over by three yrs old or earlier.

Did you know that if you were blindfolded or in complete darkness that when you run your hand over an Appaloosa you can FEEL the spots? The white hairs and the dark hairs are not the same length. The dark hairs being much shorter and closer to the hide. The dark spots are "dented" in the horse.
And this is even stranger....when they get winter hair the spots are sometimes longer and stand out like buttons.

Could this by why the chicks don't appear to be spotted [or AS spotted] as they do later when the feathers have a chance to grow away from the hide?

It's just a thought....of course there are lots of chickens who develop their colors later as they grow adult feathers......I don't know...I was just considering this. I know a lot more about horses than chickens!
