Faint because there are only a few black feathers in that particular spot. The color is still black. It seems that breeding the paints to black increase the size of the spots.
Either that or that they have been bred back to each other exclusively over the past few years and because they are predominantly white with black spots, that has minimized the spots.
I have a black cockerel from Jerry in lousianna that is an offspring of two paints and is a carrier of the gene. It was suppose to be a girl because I have no more room for boys, so he must go. Anyone interested? Please PM me if so.
Have you test bred this black to see if it does carry the paint gene? Sigrid let me to believe in the Euros that black is not carrying the gene. If the blacks and blues are carriers I have sure given away a lot of pet birds that would be good.

Thats odd, because I got the same color pattern when I crossed one of my EE hens to a silkie - except mine is named Dotty.
I haven't been able to recreate her pattern yet, but I haven't gotten that serious about it - maybe I will now, but her offspring may lay blue eggs. Hmmmm....
