The Animals of our local Shelter

Pics
Oh cool I live close to there! Someday I might come over, can anyone volunteer and do you no if they usually have jobs open?

Anyone can volunteer once they go through volunteer training. They don't often have jobs open because most of the money goes to helping the animals, though I'm hoping to get a job there soon. Shelters can always use volunteers and foster-families, however.

I'll try to post pictures soon. : )

Taro doing a happy dance. We had an adoption event and he wasn't too into the big dogs being in his face, but was good with strangers and has proven good with smaller dogs as well. I'm sure he would be fine with larger dogs that he knew also.

John is heart-worm positive and is yet to be neutered. He is older, arthritic, and too thin, but is so sweet and will follow you anywhere. He doesn't show his age, that's for sure.

Danby seems shy to some people, but really he just enjoys spending time outside with people. He is good on a leash, good out in the run, good with other dogs, and good with people. He barks at strangers as a warning, but once he gets to greet them he is okay.

Lewiston is still on medical hold for his heart-worm treatment. He is pending adoption, however.

Kingsley is starting to show signs of actually understanding how to be social. He still doesn't look at you to watch your expression, sit for treats, come when called, ect, but he tried to play with other dogs and enjoys treats now actually. The poor guy obviously was never socialized when he was young or he would understand these simple things.

One of our new dogs.

Sandy, one of our new dogs. She is a young German Shepherd mix.

Nevada is a mix-breed male that came in recently and will hopefully be up for adoption soon. : )

Holmes has issues with other dogs but hopefully neutering him will help with that.

Hemingway is being treated for ringworm right now, but is neutered, very sweet, and handsome too.

Alby is still afraid of having her collar grabbed and being put back in her kennel, but she is starting to be playful and take treats from you. She likes to be near you, just not near enough to be touched. However, she is excellent on a leash.

She is also heart-worm positive and waiting to be treated.

Sandy again.

Hemingway as he wakes up from being neutered. The white powder on his nose is for one of his sores.

Kingsley trying to kiss Alby, who was none-too-pleased. : )

Me, locked inside Dusk and Dawn's crate as I clean it and they run around the room. The table has been turned I guess. : )

Dawn. A sweet, somewhat shy at times, mix-breed girl. She has been spayed and her brother has been neutered.

Margot was almost deemed unadoptable, but after months of work is an AMAZING girl. She is intelligent, good on a leash, great with other dogs (if not a little rough during play), good with strangers and people, good on car rides, and very pretty. She is now up for adoption!!

Ernest is good with other dogs, people, car rides, and leash walks. He is strong and certainly doesn't tire easily. It took four hours at the adoption event before he started to settle down (he wasn't jumping and pulling, just wiggly and excited). He crashed in the car, very content to sleep on the drive home.

Nevada out in the run.

Nola is a young Chihuahua mix girl. She is not yet up for adoption and is somewhat shy but very sweet.

This is a white German Shepherd mix male who was returned to his owners! Yay!

Dinah is very great with people, even most strangers, but being deaf means she seems uncomfortable with other dogs and was snapping at them when they got in her face or tried to sniff her. She was stressed during the adoption event I think because she couldn't hear what was going on. She is active and sweet and pretty, but wanted to walk or bark the whole time until she was put in the crate for the ride home, when she finally seemed to relax. poor girl will need a home that is consistent and not surprising.

Danby is such a sweetie. He proved he had a very nice side that he doesn't always show when in the kennel at the adoption event. He was excellent in the car while going for a ride.

Doobie will hopefully be returned to her owners when they are able to take her back. She is sweet, if not somewhat shy, and very pretty.

John sniffing around. You can see how misshapen his back legs are from the arthritis.

Onyx racing Kingsley. Kingsley actually seemed happy doing this instead of intense and confused. You go boy!!

Kingsley happy after a run in the yard.

Lewiston.

Nero is the perfect dog. Medium in size, sweet, playful, calm, soft-furred, ready to run and play when you are and to sit and snuggle when you are. Lots of people say she is their favorite because of this. She is good with other dogs and with people, including strangers, and is obedient and potty-trained.

Odin was adopted!!

Dawn, Alby, Nevada and Nero all have someone interested in them. Hopefully they will be adopted soon!

Turns out that a dog I didn't know was in foster (I thought she had passed away, she was in pretty bad shape when she first arrived) is practically adopted! Julie Jaws the elderly chihuahua girl has a wonderful retirement home all her own. Yay!

New dogs include Sasha, Chunk-a-monk, Harvey, Wrigley, Ruth, and Jackman. I'll try to get pictures of them up soon. : )

Yay for them all! And even the ones that are new to the shelter, even though it might not seem great now, this is the best place to find a home! :celebrate

Dawn and Dusk asking for a treat.

Harvey the lab mix

Sandy the German Shepherd mix

Chunk-A-Monk racing Kingsley

Poor little Wrigley has an injured eye (he came in that way) and so has to wear a "lamp-head" so he can't scratch it and make it worse.

Margot and Turquoise playing together

Holmes asking for a treat

Ruth, the little schnauzer mix girl. She is old and has fur loss and so needs a sweater. She's such a sweet little thing. : )

Sasha a female pit-bull mix. Hopefully she will be reclaimed, as I believe she just came in today.

Sweet, shy little aussie mix boy, Jackman. He is still on stray-hold.

Harvey saying "hi".

RECENT ADOPTIONS: Dawn, Nero, Nevada, Danby, Dinah, Turk (pending), Odin, and Jackmen

Alby has started her Heartworm treatment and isn't feeling so well because of it. It is a good thing in the long-run, but right now she can only go on short leash walks (no time in the run) and is having diarrhea. Hopefully she will feel better soon. I love this girl, she is making such wonderful progress taming-wise.

Gatsby, the poor guy, is still here. He is a great dog with people, just doesn't like other dogs. I think that turns a lot of people off, despite his cute looks and adorable smile.

Kingsley is also making progress as far as socialization with people. He is a good boy, just needs a chance to be shown what love is.

Plucky is still in foster as part of our "Prison Program" and is hopefully doing well. I haven't seen him in months, but I still think about him. He was the first dog's name I heard when I first began working at the shelter.

Nola is a Chihuahua mix girl. She is now up for adoption! She was estimated around 2 years of age and is shy but very sweet. I bet she'll be adopted really quickly.

Jenna continues to have some issues with barking or snipping when surprised, but she is such a sweet girl and just loves life, so I hope she finds the right fit for her soon.

Dawn was adopted, now it is 2-year-old Dusk's turn! Here he is, excited to see me but also a little uncertain at times. He was obviously never taught manners on how not to bark or jump, but with the right guidance he can master those in his new home.

Chunk-a-Monk is up for adoption and racing Kingsley through the fence.

Harvey is up for adoption! Good for you buddy! He is estimated at around 5 years of age, but looks a lot like Chunk-A-Monk who is under 1 year old.

Greta, a gorgeous Shepherd mix female that makes me think of a coy-dog for some reason. I hope she does well (she just arrived and was only named yesterday).

Godiva is in the "high security ward" not because of aggression, but because she is in heat.

She's a real sweetie.

Turquoise chilling after playing with Margot

Margot

Chunky (Chunk-a-Monk) after being neutered. He was waking up but still drowsy.

Cujo is a lab mix owner surrender. He seemed to do well with people on his walks, but I'm not sure about his story as his name is Cujo. Probably just a bad name choice for a good dog.

Look whose eye is healing! Wrigley! He has been neutered and will be ready for adoption very soon.

Clifford the Sight-hound mix boy is fully of energy and LOVES to run. I'm thinking Whippet mix, but it could be Grey-hound.

Ernest saying "howdy". Doobie is going back to her owner soon (a difficult situation, but nothing to do with the fault of the owner or the dog)! Yea! She gets along well with Ernest and the two go in the run together. I hope he can find a home soon too.

Onyx running to say hello. Around 4-years-old, he is now up for adoption!

Parker is a heart-worm positive German Shepherd (or mix) who was neutered yesterday. He will hopefully do well with some training, as I hear he can be difficult to work with.

Not the best picture, but this is Tessa, a sweet, shy, gentle pittie girl with gorgeous patterning.

Jester, a terrier mix of some kind and a new resident. Seems like a sweetie.

Sandy is on hold, but is enjoying her time out in the run and on walks. She has a TON of energy.

Sasha, a sweet, playful little pittie mix saying hello with Ilene behind her.

Ilene the Pyrenees x hound is back by no fault of her own. She is a great girl and I'm glad she got some time with a family, but she was depressed being returned and will hopefully find a family soon.

Clifford running!!!

Holmes saying hello.

Alby again. : )
