Hi @nicalandia ,
Could you tell me anything about the “Heavy bloom” chickens? Haven’t gotten clear answers on the genetics of the heavy bloom eggers and am just wondering your knowledge/experience with the trait(?).

I have very recently hatched some shipped Faverolles eggs. Unfortunately, some of them are expressing brachydactyly and one of those has tightly fused toes.

The nails are so close together I do not believe I can safely separate the toes by dissecting the webbing. The breeder hasn’t had fused toes before, I didn’t bring up brachydactyly. Otherwise it appears quite robust at this stage.

1. Is brachydactyly incomplete dominant, and/or are there other factors at play?

2. Would I be correct in assuming fused toes are linked to brachydactyly?

It is most likely I’ll cull the cockerels and move any pullets on to pet homes.

Currently no information we have about heavy bloom, it could be both genetic and caused by external factors

1. Brachydactyly is a incompletely dominant autosomal gene.

2. Correct.

I've noticed it being genetic, mostly dominant. But that's all I've observed. Almost always seem to get plum egg layer, from a hen that also lays plum.

Some people have taken advantage of the trait, to produce Grey Eggers(Olive with super heavy bloom), & Pink, or purple eggers(Chocolate, or dark brown with thick bloom)

I believe @gimmie birdies , has Gray Eggers.
