The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

I did email Ideal, though I said that I expected them to say it's not possible.

It never crossed my mind to talk to a breeder since I actually *want* non-SOP birds.
Just order from any hatchery, you will be surprised how many of those chicks actually hatch with single comb. I would say that the chance are actually the same or somewhat smaller with SQ stock to hatch chicks with single comb... The single comb it's entrenched on the breed, it has been for generations/decades

I was given a male chick who is pure Isabel cuckoo Orpington. He was not the color the breeder needed. Can you tell me what color he will be? I know it's a dumb question. I have no idea about breeding, I'm just wondering what color my chicken will turn out to be.

I got one out of 4 in my May order. There *might* have been a second one that I was uncertain about, but a blacksnake ate it. :( (Lost 7 out of 12 chicks to 2 snake invasions in a facility we'd *thought* was secure then put a floor in the brooder when the first attempt to fix the breach we'd thought was the problem failed.)

Can you post a photo of the chick?

Chances of those with "Proper" Rose comb being actually R/r+ are quite high.. So use the Single comb one with any of those females...

Chances of the hatchmate of that single comb one being R/r+ is quite high so even if you were left with just those you can breed them and have a good chance of just single comb Wyandottes.
