I did read a very old study a few years back about a Black Sumatra being bred to a Barred rock that Supposedly produced PieBald chickens.

I may need to go back, & read it if I can find it again. I don't remember all the details.

She's not, I was basing it on the parents. I was assuming it's linked to the barring gene.
She was a solid black chick when she hatched.

It seems like spangling to me.. But it could also be Mottling. both might look identical

Okay. Neither of his parents showed either, and shouldn't have it in their background either, so I know it's not actually that gene. I just knew it looked similar ro something I saw once in a book

To me she looks like a Splash Duckwing with Partial Lacing.

If she is not barred, she does not have any other genes that are "linked" to the barring gene either. That's what linked means-- they are on the same chromosome, close together, and tend to get inherited together.

She might have modifiers that are NOT linked to barring, but that are commonly found in barred chickens. A chicken could inherit such modifiers without inheriting barring. I don't actually know if she has anything of the sort, just explaining what could happen and what should not happen.

But if it's a mutation, it may not show up like that of barring, & end up looking like something different. Won't resemble barring by one bit.

Like Smokey in the dominant white gene, or Dun as examples.
