The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

Hi Nicalandia,
Another question…
I’m wondering the feathering genetics in Orpingtons. I seem to confuse myself when I try to look it up- I tend to take in the information better when asking someone. If I breed an English Orpington female (“Kn” i believe?.. the very slow feathering gene that has juveniles with only a few feathers sometimes) to a standard hatchery Orpington male, do I get feather sexable chicks? Thought it could be an interesting project.
Thank you.

It doesn't work in reverse, right? With the slow feathering father?

I've got Clifford's kids in the brooder (13), the mixes with leghorn... some of them have different wing feather development (straight vs pointy) and one chick is an oops! clearly fathered by Popcorn the mottled Ameraucana. That little EE already has wings touching her tail, it's a big difference to the slower feathering LegOs.
Sorry for rambling, I need more caffeine.

....
Sounds good.

You had your finger on the Camara...

Uploading a video with the Color Crew/Black To White project birds. With the Chameleon Hen/Sassy Pants, Mother/Smarty Pants, Dino/Father, & Pea/Dino's Granddaughter.

After it's done, I gotta go back, & edit to add the description, I hit upload too soon, by accident.
