The Authentic Scavenger Hunt

I always knew chickens could swim because one day by the river I googled 'can chickens swim' and it said ' chickens may not be the thing you think of when you think "swimming birds," but chickens can actually swim!' So there's your proof.

Maybe some, but not all, and I don't think they like it. I have a pond and none of the girls want to go in. If their feathers get soaked, they will lose the insulating factor, plus it takes forever for all that fluff to dry. They'll be chilled until it does.

Few animals are completely incapable of swimming if forced to do so. It's an instinctual reaction to try to prevent drowning should they happen to fall into water. That does not mean they enjoy swimming or should be forced to swim. Chickens are not meant to be in the water at all. If they were, they would have waterproof feathering like ducks do. They don't even naturally take water baths in shallow water like other birds do! It's likely very stressful for them whether they seem to be floating calmly or not. In that video, that hen is pretty clearly searching for a way to get out; she does not want to be in the water. Just because she is floating and kicking her feet to move around does not mean she is happy about it. Just my two cents on that topic.

Anyway, back on track, I believe the next hunt was supposed to be any poultry swimming.

Looking at the video again I wonder. Did she go into that swimming pool by herself?

Mine like to wash their feet in a bowl of water. Especially when it’s a warm summer day. But they never went in the water behind our garden. It’s a spring with very calm water that floats just a little.

Hunt:
Since no-one has a pic of their own chickens swimming, I would like to see a chicken in water or poultry swimming.

Ps I was typing when @pipdzipdnreadytogo posted. So let’s follow her suggestion.

Alright so... If you zoom in on the hen in the top right corner by red rooster.... She is on a little tiny patch of ice formed from me cleaning out the water bucket. You'll have to trust me on this one!

Next hunt: a chicken with fuzzy feet/legs

You don't know how close I came to posting a pic of drumsticks in my freezer for this one! :D
