@Little Baby Bean how are the lil ones coming along!? Hopefully all hatched safely!
Four of the Bantam Cochins have hatched! They are so cute! I'll see about getting some pictures soon. Out of the three eggs that haven't hatched yet, only one is pipped.
The other eggs are doing good as well. One of the Tolbunts has pipped!

Can you keep boys where you live?
Not supposed to...and i have 2 for sure...then this one I guess too. And I'm really praying the little paint Satin Coco has been sparring with...rather Perdy has been sparring with Coco isn't a boy as well!
So frustrating
And I've already rehomed...4 definite boys that I had fallen in luv with in the short time of doing this!

OMGeeze ...
My oldest, Joey, does his normal crowing this morning...and then I hear what sounds like a little girl screaming!
So I jumped up and checked the chicken cams...nothing. Everything looks normal.
I listen to see where it is coming from cause I hear the screams after every crow of Joey's...
My DH had gone upstairs to sleep cuz he couldn't breathe from the cats having been in our bed so he's all stopped up n gonna have to go back to sleeping upstairs.
I hollered to see if it was him...nothing.
I keep listening and following the "little girl screams"...not coming from upstairs...not coming from outside...the garage...Coco!
Coco is belting out what he thinks is his best crow...over and over and over!
OMGeeze atleast he let yall break the news to me before he belted it out!

That is such amazing luck! So far my girls do most of the naming, it’s so hard for me to think of so many. Or tell most apart lol. I’ve been slowly banding and naming now that we’ve mostly rehomed everyone for the year. Still have about 50 I’d guess 😂
I love naming things (even my cars). I like to come up with names that are unusual. For instance my Great Pyrenees fella was named "Fruitquake" after a guy I met from Detroit decades ago. I loved that name/dog.

So now I have 25 chicks which will be fun naming especially since some are alike; i.e., I have four orpingtons and four ameraucanas. How in the world will I tell who is who when I name them? :th

ETA: I already know my first Brahma roo will be named "Samson"!

Their first little crows sure can be alarming, huh? 🤣 I've got that times 9 right now with all my little cockerels super impressed with their little squawks every morning.

What I do is use little individual differences, such as different bumps in their combs or slight color variations they may have. Some groups are just too similar for me to do that, so I rely on legbands for them. A pack of multicolored zip ties like for electrical work works well for this, or you can use multiple bands per leg and alternate legs in different arrangements if you can only find one or two colors. Just remember to put them on with some space, never tight to the leg, and check those legbands frequently to make sure they don't get too tight as the birds grow!
