Thank you so much Kurby22! The photos got attached in the wrong order, Stanley is the chick. His dad, the blue splash, is Ferdinand and he's the kindest, sweetest roo ever! Yesterday he had Stanley nestled under him to protect him from his wicked Aunt Clara, who hates him for some reason... I'm hoping Stanley has the same temperament and that I can keep him too.
Ahhh okay! Well Ferdinand is just lovely 🥰 We also had a Ferdinand but yours sounds like he suits his name better than ours did! Our Ferdinand was a bit of a weirdo 😆 Don’t we all have a mean Aunt Clara?? 😆 Poor Stanley…she will hopefully get nicer to him!

Yeah Satins have feathered feet too. His feathers on his feet have been breaking off prior to this happening.
He can sometimes be a bootyhead anyways even on good days lol.
I let him out in the warm sunshine in the grass this afternoon and he didn't appear to be limping...just giving me lots of treats lol!
He cracks me up!
I will definitely just soak that foot and do a good inspection overall once I get this grandson returned tomorrow (will be 1 om 31st! )
I hope you get to the bottom of it. He sounds a real character and I hate it when any animal is suffering. Ferdy brings me treats every day too! It went a little too far when I fell over in the garden and he charged over and stuffed a slug in my mouth! Happy birthday Grandson!

Let me know how your boy gets on.

Ferdy's dad, Sylvester, was pretty odd. He used to come the the kitchen door every night before he went to bed and shout 'ning, ning, ning' at the top of his voice, then spend 10 mins whinging to me. He made that noise when his ladies weren't doing bidding so I assume he'd come in to bitch about them to me! He also loved nachos. I really miss him but having Ferdy and his daughter, Penelope Sweet pea, is a great comfort. Clara is their mother and we call her the 'hot chick' as she's been all our roos favourite hen. Probably because she's a hopeless broody, wants all the fun and none of the responsibility ;)

Ahhh he sounds like he was a character 😆 It sounds like you have a lot of fun little Cochins to entertain you 😍 Maybe Clara already knows the new baby is gonna want her to be his favorite too and she’s done being everyone’s hot chick 😆😆

And i wasn't going to get cochin bantams! I'm so pleased I did. My first chickens were 2 ex-battery hens and 2 Shetland hens. I still have one of the Shetlands, Gladys, and she's definitely the one in charge. Ferdy might think he's the big kahuna but, like most women, she's running the show. Oops! Better not let Ferdy read that over my shoulder, it'll fracture his fragile ego (he's sat on my shoulder as I type).

How's your boy doing, Gammas Bearded Babies?
Well he was doing so much better I was.gomna soak his feet after I got all the grandkids back to moms...and he flopped and fell in lol so a bath it was! But he did so well...the toe seemed to be stabbed over so I figured he would be ok. I brought him inside the front door to blow dry him and he loved it! I really think he would be better off as a lone boy in house with me but DH would never go for that. And my mother thought I was absolutely insane (even more than she already did) for bathing n blow drying a chicken!
I tried bringing him back down with the others yesterday and disaster...he and Bluey my 6 mo roo fought non stop til they got blood and Bluey could hardly breathe.
The dynamics of the flock are just crazy whenever Joey is in there...they are all tiptoeing around and hesitant to do anything cuz of him.
I put him in the bachelor coop that is next to the big run/coop and he ain't happy but the flock is.
Bluey did so well letting me stop the bleeding and doctor him up. He has ALWAYS acted just like a girl...his comb was only indication he was ever gonna be a boy for months! He's very timid and shy so to see him fighting for not only himself but to protect the others from Joey was unreal. Then he was his gentle self again whenever I was workin on him.
Idk what I'm gonna do bout the situation.

We had a similar situation with Ferdy's Dad and the Swedish Flower Roo we had. When we got them, we thought they were pullets but by the time one crowed then the other... no issues until they hit 6 months then the fighting over girls started. We had the ex-batts and Gladys at the time and Leo (the Swedish Flower Roo) claimed them so we had poor Sylvester (cochin bantam - Ferdy's dad) being chased all over and blood drawn on a daily basis. We got Sylvester some ladies of his own - Pru and Clara. They fell for each other immediately and we thought we'd solved the problem, two functioning flocks with a coop each. UNTIL - Leo decided he was having the Cochin bantam ladies too! In the end, we had to re-home Leo as every time he mounted the Cochin bantam, he just about suffocated them. We were so scared someone was going to be killed. He did go to a lovely home and I get updates on how he's doing. I still miss him loads though and still say goodnight to him when everyone goes to bed ( can't help it, I'm such a softy).
I just hope I can persuade hubby we can make it work with Ferdy and Stanley, I don't want to have to do it again.

Ferdy is a half indoor / half outdoor boy. He spends his day with the ladies then comes in at tea time for his food, then t.v. and snuggles. He's absolutely no bother in the house and I've got him nearly toilet trained - about 85%. He's only a year old so there's scope for that to improve. He goes to bed in his outdoor coop.

My friend kept a lone chicken after the rest of the flock died. The hen loved it, really blossomed on her own so I know keeping them solo can work. Think it all depends on their personality.

Could you maybe build a pen just for Joey and see how he does?

Toilet trained!?! I gotta have detailed info on this!
I tried letting Daisy go out with Joey...she was not the willing participant she had been prior to his getting hurt last week and being inside majority of the week.
Bluey is same age as Daisy so let's just say he's got a lot to learn and misses a lot lol.
