It's been easy to see when he needs to go from him being a chick. He sort of takes a step back and lifts both wings. I started putting him on a puppy pad when I saw he needed to potty and gave him a treat when he went. He's a very bright little boy so he cottoned on quickly. The biggest help training him though was my ex-batt, Connie. She was a very clean girl and was naturally almost 100% house trained. I remember one occasion she pooped in the kitchen and she looked over her shoulder and said "Oh no!". I swear that's exactly what it sounded like!

Could you invoke some chicken math and get some ladies just for Joey?

Well...I tried giving him Daisy cuz he had her attention before he got hurt last week...but she quickly took to Bluey while Joey was healin..healing...
I guess I could try her with Joey again and see.
I would LUV a video clip of yours using puppy pad cuz my DH will never believe it is possible!!!

Ahhh I’ve been wondering where you’ve been!! I’m so sorry to hear about your chicken losses :-( I lost two of my sweet ladies to unfixable sour crop/impacted crop. It’s so hard to deal with because there’s nothing else wrong and you try all the things :-( I love that your Cochin got to go for show and tell! He looks like he had a good time

I hope you are recovering well and things get better for you! Glad to see you back on the threads!

That mom life just keeps getting crazier Constant health issues for us lately and the thread just got away from me again. Hoping I’m avoiding another surgery after a scary ER trip this weekend Luckily the girls have just been normal sick, love those school germs… Thank you for the condolences My dad made her a beautiful little grave and said some nice words, he’s always been so sympathetic with the critters. He’s gotten into guineas and is quite the doting caretaker, making sure to get home before dark to give them bedtime treats

Hi everyone, don't want to bust into the middle of your conversation but I've just got to say what a lovely boy! How did you get him to wear a harness? My blue splash boy is quite happy to sit on my shoulder like a cut-price parrot when we're on the move but it'd be good to have a little control in an emergency!

Honestly it just seems to be an individual thing! My 10 year old has tried just about every chicken in it now lol. Either they accept it right away or they’re not catchable, wish I could have more tips! Jellybean is super chill (unless it’s the dogs ) and loves being cuddled

I've been missing u n wondered what happened! Life can really take its toll at times!
I'm so very sorry bout your babies! Idk how ill handle losing one I've raised from egg! I've only ever lost newly hatched chicks.
We are GLAD you are back and pray you recover soon!

We seem to have really awful spells and then it’ll be easy for a while. Thankfully it’s been calm for the majority of the year since my mom has been caring for her mother with Alzheimer’s. Usually someone ends up horribly ill or injured if she’s unavailable So grateful for such a prolonged healthy spell! Hoping to return to the healthy side soon

Jellybean with his ladies, they’re so cute together! We’ve gotten hit with winter this week Went from 70s one day to snow/ice the next. Eewwwwww! Everyone seems to be handling it pretty well. A bit worried about my D’Uccles, I can’t believe how tiny they are! These fluffballs don’t seem bothered luckily

Such adorable fluffy bowling balls! I’m jealous you got cold weather! I miss winter weather that’s legit! I grew up in Idaho so I know a good fall and winter and it’s so much better than here I hope your little d’Uccles get acclimated quickly!

Oh my, I hope you avoid it too!! I’ve been battling salmonella and a sore throat I think and have been pretty miserable…so I feel you with family illnesses! I hope winter gives you time to rest and not find more germs!

@Poodlemum we sure have missed you!!! My d'uccles are tiny too! My cochins are bigger than my 7 month old Satins!!! Lots of chunky luv those two have lol!
Did I show yall the video of the new babies?! I can't remember who I did or didn't show lol!

I'll try to get a clip for you. He can be a bit camera shy but if I catch him unawares... I'm gonna try to teach Stanley as well and I'm hoping Ferdy will help. I've found chickens can be quite lazy and they don't necessarily learn well from others. My ex-batt Peggy learnt to crack snail shells open on the paving to get at the snail. My other girls were just content to hang round and steal them. When Peggy passed on, the skill was lost and now no-one can do it.

I'll have to just try him in one of the cat harnesses, see how he goes. He is the most chilled out bird so who knows? Ferdy's personal bugbear is the local blackbird. He hates it with a passion! Jellybean is such a handsome boy.

I feel for you all. I have loads of health issues and on top of it all, I've just come down with chicken pox. It's so tiring dealing with health probs but the chickens keep me going even if they can be hard work at times. Best thing I ever did was get them.
