Thank you so much Kurby22! The photos got attached in the wrong order, Stanley is the chick. His dad, the blue splash, is Ferdinand and he's the kindest, sweetest roo ever! Yesterday he had Stanley nestled under him to protect him from his wicked Aunt Clara, who hates him for some reason... I'm hoping Stanley has the same temperament and that I can keep him too.

Oh how precious! And a gorgeous daddy!!! Sweet temperaments are even more special in a good boy like that too!
U should be proud! 😊
Thank you. He is more dog than chicken, I think! Yesterday he was soaking wet and covered in mud (British weather - rained all day) and although the ladies and chick stayed dry, he decided he needed to patrol the boundaries. When he came in for t.v. and snuggle hour, I decided to bathe him. Never given him a bath before but he took it in his stride and even lay on his back for his blow dry!

How'd u go about giving him a bath?
Bathtub, container, sink?
Reason I'm askin is I gotta bathe my boy and his girlfriend he got blood all over that is snow-white!
We've been below freezing here so I have him isolated letting his toe heal that somehow got his toenail ripped off so he's in garage and the blood dried brown on her so she's not being pecked at by others.
But we are supposed to have warmer weekend 70s so thought I'd get em both taken care of!

Oh, poor baby! I once trimmed the nails on my Swedish Flower Roo and cut too far into the quick. He bled everywhere. I felt so bad!

How big is your roo? The full size roos' go in the bathtub and my bantams just in the sink. I just use baby temp water and sensitive, fragrance-free cat shampoo if necessary (I figure if it's not toxic to cats, chickens should be fine). All of my chickens have been fine being bathed, just have plenty of treats handy. If you have mixer taps and a spooky chicken, you can get the water coming out at the right temp, stand them in the sink and fill up around them. They don't seem to notice it as much. Rinse really well.

I towel dry gently then blow dry on the lowest setting. in the winter i do it until fully dry but in the summer I let them air dry if it's warm enough.

Just don't do what I did with Ferdy's Dad. He was Lavender and I thought he had pale brown stains on some of his feathers. I scrubbed them with an old toothbrush for bloody ages until I realised he had a few buff feathers in his coat!

He's a bantam Satin year old boy... his toe is pretty swollen from what I can tell. He's not wanting me to do much with him...so I'm not sure what's going on with him.
😔

I think I'd just give your roo a gentle footbath for now then. I'm not really familiar with Satins. Do they have feathered feet like Cochin bantam?
Once the foot is cleaned up you should be able to tell if there's infection going on in that toe. It sounds like he might be in pain, if he's not wanting you to fuss with him too much? Mine get either meloxaid if I have any or even a baby aspirin if I think they really need it. For a bantam I'd give just a quarter of a 75mg aspirin to start with, once a day. I'd not put any sort of shampoo in the water either. Once I'd got it cleaned up, I'd use fresh water and sea salt for a little foot soak then leave to dry. Is he injured anywhere else? My friend's hen looked like she had a nasty sprain as she was limping for days. On very close examination, turned out she had an infected puncture wound on her neck. It was hidden under her hackles and there wasn't a drop of blood on her.

Yeah Satins have feathered feet too. His feathers on his feet have been breaking off prior to this happening.
He can sometimes be a bootyhead anyways even on good days lol.
I let him out in the warm sunshine in the grass this afternoon and he didn't appear to be limping...just giving me lots of treats lol!
He cracks me up!
I will definitely just soak that foot and do a good inspection overall once I get this grandson returned tomorrow (will be 1 om 31st! )
