The birb king's chickens

Sorry I haven't been able to update in awhile I was unnecessarily banned. Sadly we lost chocolate recently. Somehow she got wry neck which made her spin in circles constantly and not be able to move her neck to even eat or drink properly. From the way I found her it looks like she fell off the roost at night, landed on her back, and suffocated. It just sucks that she was my best quality Serama hen and now I'm down to only 5 Serama hens. Luckily I think the 2 Serama chicks are hers since they are both chocolate colored and she was my only chocolate adult, but I have put a new batch of 10 Serama eggs in the incubator to hopefully get more.

My most recent batch of eggs hatched! And I ended up with 11 hatching out of 14 eggs, so a really good hatch rate. Ended up with 3 lavender Ameraucanas, 1 Blue Ameraucana, 4 Marans mixes, and 2 pure Wheaton Marans. 3 needed help hatching and weren't doing great at first but they look great now. I tried giving them to both of my broody hens today but they did not accept them, so I guess they will just have to stay in the brooder

Sure is hard to update my thread if I constantly get banned for no reason. 🙄 Anyway a few weeks ago after I tried giving those 13 chicks to Raven and Yokie Jr and neither one accepted, I decided to try again at night since thats when your supposed to do it instead of during the day, and it worked! I snuck all 13 of them under Yokie Jr again and she immediately accepted them and started making broody sounds. She has had them for a few weeks now and they are all doing great

I moved Yokie Jr and her 13 children back into the main coop today. For some reason Yokie Jr got really protective and started fighting a lot of the hens that were higher in the pecking order than her. They've settled down now tho. The flock they are with are pretty chill and I can trust they won't hurt the chicks. Can't say the same about the flock next to them though. I had to patch up some holes in the fence so no chicks accidentally wander over to that side. I've got a feeling the Rhode Island Reds and the Peafowl would gladly snatch a little chick if they got the chance.

12 button quail eggs and 3 more Seramas eggs were just put in the incubator. I'm going on a vacation trip in a few weeks so they should be hatching when I get back. The new Seramas chicks are starting to get their feathers, and looks like their gonna be some pretty interesting colors. 1 of the Marans chicks died the day after it hatched, but other then that the remaining 8 chicks are doing well.

I have sold most of my extra pullets and cockerels, as well as some adult hens. All the pullets and one cockerel I decided to keep are still in their own coop. Not sure if I should introduce them into the main flock soon since they are getting big, or wait a bit longer. I think its best to wait since some are still pretty small and the older birds haven't been too nice to them through the fence.

2 Serama hens are broody again because of course they are. I might give them the Serama chicks that hatch in a couple weeks, but I'm not sure. As long as its just those 2 it should be fine. Miniscule Maddy might have gone broody with them but I cant tell. If she did then she ain't getting nothing since shes a chick killer.

About how many times do they go broody each year?!
