We do have Coral snakes here, though they are somewhat rare. Red on black - OK. Black on red - not OK! I saw one as a boy and stupidly tried to catch it! I studied animals and knew what it was.
World's largest minnow farms (Anderson's) are located east of Little Rock at Lonoke. The snakes there grow HUGE gorging themselves on minnows. I saw a long handled frog gig get taken from a friend's hands that decided to gig one. It stuck straight up in the water and waved wildly around. After a while it just floated up to the surface. Either a huge water snake or an Anaconda!
Alligators have increased exponentially over the last few years and are quite common in some areas. My GF was a commercial fisherman and trapper back in the 30's - 50's and told me of seeing large gators' in the Red River bottoms in Southwest Arkansas.
