The BlackAdder with Rowan Atkinson

Those brits! So funny.
"How lucky you English are to find the toilet so amusing. For us, it is a mundane and functional item. For you, it is the basis of an entire culture."

They are all very funny. Used to watch them alot growing up when there werent that many channels on tv. They showed them on PBS and were hilarious. The one from Elizabethan times has a future star in Hugh Laurie from House as one of the co stars. Funniest episode was the "shaped" turnip haha....If you ever saw it, you know what I am talking about.

I'm glad that you folk in the USA understand and appreciate British humour at it's best. Congratulations too, because even Britain's close neighbours in Europe often don't understand it.

Most of the Blackadder episodes were comedy skits based on British history with brilliant one liners and a tinge of serious social comment here and there. The WWI series was most definitely black humour. Under the jokes was serious criticism of the social structure of the day that sent young men to their deaths whilst their idiot wealthy leaders sat comfortably well back from the front line. A bit like some things that go on today, you might say.

If anyone would like to explore British tv sit com. humour further there are episodes from excellent old programmes on You Tube. Search for titles such as:

Last Of The Summer Wine

One Foot In The Grave

I Didn't Know You Cared

I hope you enjoy.

Not as old but the Vicar of Dibley is another one we had to get the whole box set of. Britcom rocks!

How could I have forgotten that one! Quality throughout and good harmless fun.

I was talking with a Belgian friend this evening and he said that in Europe the British had a reputation for aiming their humour at themselves. I said that that was its strength.

I have loved them since I was 8 yrs old and they played them on Public TV here in the states. I started out with Monty Python and then fell in love with many. Including things that weren't comedies like BallyKissAngel or the Australian Seachange and ....oh now I forget the other Aussie show.

I would love to visit England or Ireland but I am too poor. I am looking for a scholarship, grant or embassadorship to visit there.
I don't know if any groups there are interested in hearing about Native American stuff through a Mexican or even Mexican Native stuff from a Pocho.

Oh well someday.

Another Britcom fan here. I want the Black Adder set. I already have the first two seasons of the IT Crowd and I just bought a boxed set of the Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin...one of the first Britcoms I started to watch. Also loved the first couple seasons of AbFab and watched Dr. Who for forever.
